 | Centurylink speed tests differ from DSLreports I used flash and java speedtests on my 1.5mbps DSL with centurylink and was coming up with about .5mbps download. I called Centurylink support and they had me run speedtest.centurylink.net. I tried it on several of their servers and everyone of them said I was getting at least 1.5mbps download. Anybody else had an issue like this? Doesn't sound right to me, and I was doing the testing because youtube and other video was slowing down... |

| Sounds about right, every different test you run will give you a different result. Lots of companies like CenturyLink use the Ookla test because it usually gives the highest result, sometimes even higher than what's possible. I found that speed.io generally gives the most accurate results but YMMV. |

They are testing what your line is actually capable of, which is what they care about. The other Speedtest's measure what you're getting off the internet, which is what you care about.
Report it as an issue to the CL Support Team. Send an email with your account and contact info, and the problem details, to: talktous@centurylink.com |

I ran a speed test using the CL speed test and it matched all the speed tests I ran outside of it. The issue with browser speeds tests is that they are highly inaccurate and not consistent. Browser based tests rely on your browser being setup properly, plugins working correctly and your PC working correctly.
If you look at my post where I posted my results, I added in my own speed test using a legal linux.iso from their site. That test matches what CL told me and what another speed test site side.
That being said I also think your location in the CL network matters as well. |

| You are correct. Many times, CL's speed test matches speed tests that I run on Speakeasy and on Speedtest.net. Although, many times it doesn't. there are so many factors that go into a particular speed test, that it's tough to get each one to match. -- "Is there a 50's Cafe around here"? |
