Unknowingly used old version of Firefox. Should I worry?

A few days ago I found out I had been using an old version of Firefox (version 5.0.) since July of 2011. I manually updated to 9.0.1 and then today to version 10.

I never unchecked automatic updates and automatic installation of updates for Firefox, so I assumed everything would take care of itself. My Firefox addons HAVE been updating automatically, and that option wasn't unchecked either. So for all this time I didn't have the latest version, and I'm scared because I think that could mean I was surfing around without the latest security updates to Firefox.

Should I be worried? What should I do? I am currently using the latest version of Firefox for Mac OS X.

Don't worry. As long as you have NoScript updated, preferably AdBlock as well, you'll be fine.

BTW, I'm still rocking FF 3.5 because I despise the bloated piece of shit that the new versions have become. I have yet to experience any problems.

crabgrass, if you haven't been noticing any strange behavior, with your computer, then there probably isn't a problem..

if you are concerned, you could scan your computer for malware.. there are many different programs that you could use to scan your computer for malware.. TDSSKiller, aswMBR, GMER, hitmanpro, malwarebytes.. programs from microsoft, kaspersky, eset..

There have certainly been vulnerabilities fixed between 5 & 10, nonetheless I wouldn't be.

I deliberately use an older version of Firefox, and I haven't had any problems at all.

Like others have said, security has more to do with your settings and the addons you use - like NoScript, Ghostery, etc.

What is your plan after Mozilla ends its v3.6 support?

I guess I'll see. Probably have to go to FF 10. I've avoided it, as FF's 'race' in build numbers has kind of concerned me.

I use a Firefox derivative, Pale Moon, which in many ways is a better built browser.

You have your choice of Version 3 or Version 9, both updated regularly BUT without so much of the Firefox update madness.

Version 3:

Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7, 32-bit or 64-bit
A processor with SSE support (see list)
64 MB of RAM (128 MB or more recommended)
At least 50 MB of free (uncompressed) disk space

Version 9:

Windows XP SP2+/Vista/7, 32-bit or 64-bit
A processor with SSE2 support (see list)
256 MB of RAM
At least 50 MB of free (uncompressed) disk space

I'm still on Fx 4.01 but I just had a demonstration of the need to upgrade it. I said I would use 4.01 for about a year and I have. I did not feel any need to upgrade it until this problem a few days ago that clearly is connected to this being an almost one year old version.

I think I am going to install the enterprise version and join the mailing list as Mozilla requests. It will not upgrade for 52 weeks except for bug/security patches...much like Fx used to be.

That sounds good. I'll have to look for the enterprise version. What build is it?
