What would make these tests more interesting is if a side by side comparison sheet of advertising dollars spent at PC magazine by the companies being tested were published at the same time.

(Wow, Rubenking is still there.)

PCMag: How We Test Malware Blocking.

What would make these tests more interesting ... is if A/V were actually an effective way of stopping malware.

I'd like to see detection results from VirusTotal for first time submissions.

I feel there's something to be said for real life threat conditions as opposed to those fabricated in a lab.

edit: VirusTotal feels that their detection statistics are not a suitable metric to base an A/V choice.
They feel that VT may not use other A/V features, available to the end user (which seem to be heuristics and that's it).

That might be why a user shouldn't base their A/V choice solely on VT stats.

However, it's not a good reason to withhold VT stats.

1st submission detection rate stats would show real life trends in detecting advanced 0day malware.

Without VT's volume of 0day malware, a lab couldn't provide that same data.

AV Test 1211 - do not believe everything you read.

ESET is blowing smoke, as usual.

Here you can read ESETs Press Release - »www.eset.com/us/presscenter/pres···stitute/

ESETs misleading selectively edited Press Release makes ESET look like your No.1 choice.

Here you can read the full AV test results - »www.av-test.org/fileadmin/pdf/av···lish.pdf

AV Tests unedited full test shows ESET is way down at No.15 in Protection and Repair, the areas where it really matters.

It looks to me like K7 Ultimate Security was the overall #1, but I've never seen it tested anywhere or advertised anywhere, almost as if it doesn't exist.

Why am I not surprised at this latest deception you uncovered from ESET? Anti-virus producers have always used snake oil and horse puckey to make their programs look better than they are and better than the other guys.
