Is Avast acting a little weird?

I just downloaded ccleaner from filehippo and it was calling the file a virus.. it installed ok and seems to be running fine..

If it were me, I'd be running every scan I could find.

"Downloaded and ran" doesn't mean it wasn't infected with something extra. I personally always download ccleaner from the source, and Avast has never complained.

Question?

Why would you get a file from a third party when it is available direct from the Author's web pages? My rule of thumb is to always go direct and only download from the Author's site. It tends to be the best source as it is the source.

The author charges. I also download it from file hippo and have done it this way for years without problem. Why put CC info on the authors servers for possible hacking / breach.

The author does not charge for the free version, which is what you got from FileHippo. ???? No CC info required ...

The author charges only if you want either of the pro versions, there is also a free version that you can download from the authors site just like the pay. If you don't want to pay for the pro scroll down the page that was linked and click builds and it will take you to the free versions that can be downloaded from off of the authors site.

Yes i only use / want the free version i don't need support. Next time i'll try the authors link instead of file hippo. A few years back i got directed to a CC input page or something like that and used file hippo after that.

Filehippo is one of the alternate downloads from piriform site.
Filehippo only sources it's downloads from vendors it supports sometimes there's a lag of a day b/w when it updates a new release.....perhaps they vet i don't know but they have not put out anything (other than comodo pruduct) that i would consider suspicious as long as i've been aware.
Ask toolbar bundled the same as suppler and the like excluded.
