Anybody using TELEHOP cable Internet ?

On my search to find a cable internet provider, I came accross a company called TELEHOP in North York.
My search on this forum discovered, that some saying it is just a reseller of TEKSAVY
When I called this company and asked them this question, they denied that this is the case.
Anybody has cable or dsl internet service with TELEHOP ?
Would you care to share their experience to deal with them ?
Thanks!

They're I'm pretty much 100% sure that they're resellers of TekSavvy cable internet.

They have good transparency but I took a look at their HTML source and in the code for their postal code checker they have a comment "should work with teksavvy always".

so they are just reselling teksavvy ?

wondering, if they are only act as an "administrator" or actually my service would connect to them first and then to teksavvy ?

It looks like they are just reselling.

Other than billing and support your service would have nothing to do with them, the actual internet connection would be from TekSavvy and you would have an IP that is part of TekSavvy's allocation.

Well, I signed up with them and began my service on March 6.
Yes, checked my ip address, it is coming from Teksavy.
Not even a week later, received an email about price increase:

These prices are now higher than Teksavy prices, I wish I would have signed up with them !!!!
I have choosen Telehop , because they only charged $20 activation fee...... now my savings is gone !
And when I checked on Teksavy website, they will not take any longer new cable customers from my area !!
----------------------------------------------------------------
I find this short 3 week notice about the price increase somewhat unfair, they should give their customer longer notice, so if somebody does not want to pay the higher prices, they would have the required 30 days time to cancel service !

I might have a few word/contact with their customer service/supervisor/manager/complaint officer/ CEO / and perhaps will write a complaint to the CCTS (Commision for complaints for Telecommunications Services)

The new prices came into affect from TekSavvy on February 2, 2012. In addition you are also paying an extra $5.65/month including tax by deciding to go with a reseller.

Legally they are supposed to provide their customers with a 30 day notice so they fell short on that by 9 days but other than complaining to some government agency, I can't remember which one, their is nothing that you can do about it.

I went with a RESELLER, because TEKSAVY's expensive $65 ACTIVATION FEE is clearly a money grabbing!

After a few phone calls to Telehop, they agreed, because of the too short notice, that I can have a 15 days cancellation notice...how nice they are, aren't they ?

However, I asked them if they can do anything else to keep me there, like giving me the old prices for another 6 months?

They did not want to do that, but they agreed to waive the $25 + Tax Activation Fee, if I stay.(It was not $20, as I said earlier)

So I am staying with them for now, although I am paying $4/month more than with Teksavy, --with my $0 activation fee, it will take 16 months to catch up to Teksavy's $65 Activation Fee .

Telehop has the same activation fee because the fee is not from TekSavvy but rather Rogers and they than pass the fee onto the end user, which is you.

They didn't want to give you the old prices because than they would've lost their little bit of profit.

The extra $5.65/month that you will be spending on telehop for the entire time that you get service from them would balance out the $65 activation fee on TekSavvy in 11.5 months and if you were to buy a modem from TekSavvy the activation fee would be $45 which balances out in 8 months.

Well, looks like TELEHOP changed the activation fee too .....it was 24.99, now it is $64.99

I wish, they would have done all this a month earlier, so I would not have signed up with them.

Now there is absolutely no point for anyone to sign up with them, same activation fee and higher monthy prices !!
Good luck with their business, they will need it !

There is obviously a negative side to a "no contract" , pay as you go monthly service ......they can raise their prices anytime, and all you can do is cancel !
But with the activation fee, that going to be the most expensive internet service.

Buying a modem?
That is another favorite trick from providers to create a very short "recommended" modem list, and make people believe that they need to buy a new modem, otherwise they can not get a service.
My conversation with someone from Teksavy revealed, that they also have another very long "not published" modem list, which lists all the cable modems, which WOULD WORK just fine with their service.

They just try to make a few extra $$$$ by selling modems !

Just wants to know if the SB6180, .pdf is on "that list" cause I just know I can get my bluidy grubby paws on one if I hunt hard enough. Just cause it does 8 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels and its a Motorola, which is known to be stable. My only worry is the firmware pushed by the TFTP servers at the POI's being reliable enough not to brick the unit.

looks just like the SB6121 doesn't it?

I'd rather have a Motorola than one of those Thompsons.

You see there is only one constant. One universal. It is the only real truth. Causality. Action, reaction. Cause and effect.

Motorola SB6120-1.0.6.1, Netgear RangeMax WNDR3700v1, Dupont POI, eXtreme Cable Pr0 28/1:4/4 Unlimited.

well, this thread now changed a little bit of directions from Telehop to recommended/ approved modem list
-if you search long and hard enough, you will find the "LONG" list somewhere on this forum, I have seen it once
-call Teksavy's tech support and with some luck, a right person in a good mood , might be able to tell you
(you might need to call them a few times)

TELEHOP just increased their prices and activation fees in March and the webpage now shows the new prices.
I agree, now it would make no financial sense for anyone to sign up with them!
I got my own modem, and as long as it works, I am not going to buy one !
