| [FireFox] Power Outage (Win7 64 Ult) now Firefox is not respondi Hello, I have Win7 Ult 64. The other day it was running with Firefox 10X open (Quite a few browser windows actually) when the power went out. When power was restored my computer booted up fine, but now Firefox hangs (Firefox Is Not Responding) I've tried restoring to a previous point (no luck) I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox (no luck) I (maybe) should point out that I never backed up my profile (bookmarks, saved passwords) so I' chose to keep that info on uninstall in the hopes that I won't have to manually re-add my bookmarks & saved passwords. I did put C:\Program Files (x86(\Mozilla Firefox... just about everything in that directory onto a USB flash drive.
Any ideas?
Oh one more point, Awhile back I did contract the Win7 Anti Virus 'cootie' although everything SEEMS to be running fine since I 'took care of it' with AVG and Malware Bytes but I haven't been able to run Peer Block ever since. Any help (Short of a 'Clean and Pave') would be appreciated Sincerely, jozy123 |

| Re: [FireFox] Power Outage (Win7 64 Ult) now Firefox is not resp One or more files in your profile became corrupted, or not completely written to the disk due to the write cache your operating system might use/improper shutdown. Reinstalling would do nothing, and the users personal directories are generally not covered by system restore, only system folders/registry hive.
So now you need to start over again, but if you copy over specific files they might work, otherwise they are lost. With a major version change I'm not sure exactly which files would be needed, but for example if you don't know any of your passwords without it saving them, then you need to start remembering them. For you, I believe the files you would need to copy over are the key, places(aka bookmarks), and cookie files.
To make a new profile start firefox with the command firefox -p -- I distrust those people who know so well what god wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires- Susan B. | Thank you. Not what I was hoping to read, but not unexpected either.
So, (Firefox is currently uninstalled) I need to reinstall Firefox to uninstall it INCLUDING the personal info I chose to keep before?
Then clean the Firefox (Program Files X 86) directory (delete)
then reinstall it as a normal installation?
Or do I need to clean out anywhere else also? (Like clean out my Firefox registry entry.) |

| Where the hell did you think of those instructions???
All I said you had to do was while Firefox was installed make a new profile, and manually copy some files over from the old profile, assuming you didn't already delete it, otherwise there was no guarantee with a bad write/improper shutdown that the files would be intact.

1 edit | Thank you.
The problem is I can't open Firefox, it hangs on start up, so I can NOT get into the profile I never backed up in the first place. (Obviously my fault) Command Prompt/ firefox -p is not an available option to me at this point, since I already uninstalled Firefox. (But I did save everything in that directory to a USB stick)
What I was saying is I checkmarked 'save 'personal info' upon removing (uninstalling) Firefox originally, which saved a bunch of data in the Program Files (X86) Mozilla Firefox directory. With the Program Files/X86/Mozilla Firefox directory full of (now) garbage, I figured I needed to get rid of that garbage since reinstalling Firefox just gives me the same hang I've had in the first place. I DO know that my profile is NOT saved to Program Files (X86) Mozilla Firefox, but I'll use the links you provided me. Anyway, thank you both for your time, and the links to mozilla.org. I'm sorry I couldn't elaborate my problem better. Have a beautiful day, Sincerely, jozy123 |

| When you start firefox with the command line option of -p it will not load the default profile, and open it's profile manager, so if the profile is the problem then it won't be an issue unless you load that profile.
If firefox is flat out crashing even after a reinstall, and it's not profile related you should check the disk for errors, other factors including your operating system could be damaged. -- I distrust those people who know so well what god wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires- Susan B. | I'm running a disk scan right now, on the up side I have a pristine 1/2TB SATA drive I can utilize to do a 'Clean & Pave', And that actually sounds like a good idea to me if I find a problem on reinstall of Firefox. Thank you again for your time, I truly appreciate it. jozy123 I actually think that (since I contracted the Win7 Anti Virus trojan) that reinstalling Windows is best option. (Actually the BEST option is to install Linux as my OS!) Going to make dinner, thank you again! |
