Are you more likely to buy an eBay item with priority mail?

Poll
Does priority mail shipping make an eBay vendor more attractive to you for a purchase over vendors who offer standard shipping?

Yes

No

Votes:57

I'm curious.

If you see a bunch of items and they are all within 5% price of each other from different vendors, are you more likely to buy the item from the vendor that is using priority mail vs. the vendor using "standard shipping" ?

I remember when I did more eBay buying 2-3 years ago, priority mail was always a tipping point for me. I knew there was a chance I'd get Saturday delivery - something I'd have to pay out the ass for with FedEx & UPS. I knew my item would be moving on Saturday, which allowed for faster delivery, and I knew even if it shipped from California to New York there was a chance of getting it Wednesday(usually Thursday) if I bought it Monday, whereas UPS would often take 5-7 days which turns into more than a week.

Thanks,

Thanks,

The ones that don't ship to po boxes are immediately out.
of those left the ones that don't offer insurance are out.
of them those with under 1000 feedbacks are out.
of the ones left with under 99% positives are out.

the ones left after all that are the ones with the best price, DOA guarantee and return policies

If everything else is equal - yes.
Otherwise, I have a feeling most people would choose the cheaper shipping, unless there's a definite need for speedier delivery.

In this order:
1) US Seller
2) Seller feedback
3) Free shipping
4) shipping type

Please offer me something better then "standard shipping" if i wish to pay for better. Please give the option to use my P.O. box if i choose. If you want to offer "free shipping" its OK if that is standard but let me choose .

No, because there is a very high probability that the package won't make it in one piece. I very rarely get destroyed parts via UPS or FexEX but I often get destroyed parts via USPS. FedEX is currently the only shipper I will use on outbound packages and if given the choice the only one on inbound.

I refuse to use UPS since I lost a large customer because I had parts stuck in shipping because the lazy bastards went on strike.

For me this issue is not whether it is priority vs standard but rather do they offer FREE shipping. I would opt for a seller with free shipping before one that has a shipping charge. I realize that in many cases the shipping is just factored in to the price of the item, but if and when a return refund situation arises, the refund is for the entire amount.

As for vendors offering/not offering insurance. This is irrelevant. The seller is entirely responsible to ensure that the item you purchased arrives in the purchased condition.

This means that if I buy an new unbroken widget but recieve a widget that was broken in transit, this is the sellers responsibilty.

Auction statements such as "not responsible for damage in shipping if buyer doesn't buy insurance" are meaningless and do not conform to eBay rules.

USPS is the best as everyone lives near a post office and can pick up a package when they can be home to receive it.
I will always choose the seller that ships via usps over all others.
USPS has the best prices and quick shipping.

UPS never ships early. Fedex and USPS will.

Of course. I get bothered when I know that delivery of an item could likely take twice as long, usually for an insignificantly lower cost. Oftentimes sellers don't use expedited shipping, but the shipping is still expensive. Very annoying.

Thats probably because it gets handed off from UPS to USPS where the damage was done by UPS.

thats because they're stuffing their ebay sellers fees into shipping!

Union + Government Employee vs. just Union. I am thinking that USPS employees suffer from the I don't give a shits more than UPS drivers so I am guessing it's USPS.

I think what is meant by that is for 50 cents or a dollar more the item could have been sent Priority Mail rather than 1st class. If the seller understood this, they could either absorb this expense or increase their shipping cost that minor amount and at least offer Priority Mail as an option.

Personally, I like Priority Mail as IMHO, it gives someone less of a chance to screw up the handling. The system in place for moving the items is much more streamlined.

After 14oz there is no more "First Class", everything is Priority. First Cass is really for small envelopes only.

There is Parcel Post though. First Class is actually "expedited", there's just that low weight limit. Parcel Post is probably what he was thinking of.

To me the biggest problem with using Priority Mail or almost any other service provided by USPS is that there is no way to track the package like there is with UPS and FedEx.

I thought about that. I still liked priority mail. I'd rather get my box sooner then be able to see every step of its 5-7 day trip.

So far, 2/3 yes, 1/3 no.

Interestingly enough, website statistics for people on standard shipping. for every 20 people who choose priority mail, 9 choose fedex ground/home delivery.

I feel like it is the preferred method. It's about time I give people what they want. My only fear is filing insurance claims with USPS being a pain. It is to the point of entering 3 pieces of data into an online webform and getting a check with FedEx, something tells me USPS will make this considerably more difficult.
