[DSL] No internet. No dsl light. DSL fails sync test.

Late Saturday/early sunday morning my internet stopped working. I tried pwercycling the modem, router, pc no luck. Then I noticed I am not getting any light on my modem for dsl at all, no flashing red, no green, nada. Plug modemninto pc, it fails adsl line sync test. Any suggestions?

You're quite right, that's a no-sync issue.

First thing I'd check is to make sure that it's not a missing/dead DSL filter. Check every phone, answering machine, fax machine, etc. that plugs into a phone jack; make sure they all have filters (if you recently got a new fax machine, for example, make sure it's using a DSL filter). If they ARE all using DSL filters and you're still getting no DSL sync light, next thing I'd suggest trying is to unplug all of the phones etc.; if that restores the DSL sync light, then that usually indicates that one of the filters has burned out (in which case, plugging the phones back in, one by one, would let you determine which one is burned out). You can also try plugging the modem into a different phone jack, to make sure it's not a problem with that one phone jack, and trying a different phone cord, to make sure it's not just a problem with that cord.

If you try all of the above, and you're STILL not seeing that DSL sync light turn on... then I'd suggest either calling in to DSL Extreme (866-491-7221), or IM me your account details, because at that point the most likely cause of your problem is either a dead modem or a problem with the outside phone lines.

Sorry for the delay in updates, been a busy week. The same day I posted I unplugged the phone lines plugged em back in and was getting a dsl light. Still wouldn't function properly with router, plugged straight into the modem and it would work for a few minutes, then completely reset after about 10-15 minutes, sometimes less, then would work again.

Picked up a new modem yesterday and everything was great when it was straight to modem, new filters. Connected it to router, same thing no internet. Reset router completely to factory defaults, run setup of router again no dice. I leave things alone for a couple hours, check the modem, no internet light again. Say heck with it and go to bed.

This morning get up plug straight into the modem and internet light is on and working after a restart of the modem.

Picking up a new phone cord this afternoon, but I am hesitant to get a router as well as I think its a line issue.

Is there a program I can snag that will monitor uptime etc for the modem?

I will pm you my information as well as there has been some digging up of cables etc across the street about a mile or so down and I have seen some att trucks around there as well.

Got your PM, thanks. It doesn't appear to be a problem with the outside lines; I took a look at the logs, and your connection was fine up until 2/5 7am, at which time it logged a disconnection via 'user request'. That doesn't mean YOU yourself told it to disconnect, but it does mean that some device on your end (such as the modem or router) disconnected, rather than the line being disrupted or a problem with the hardware on our end of the circuit. The current line readings also look fine; the upstream noise margin is slightly low but still within range, and everything else looks very good. I'll have a tech give you a call to help troubleshoot which piece of equipment might be failing.

Thanks nick for the help, the new router solved the issues picked up a netgear tonight and everything is as smooth as silk. Been having issues with the router for a while, but have always been able to eventually wrestle it into cooperation till this week.

Great, glad to hear it. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any more trouble with the connection.
