Netflix' streaming library is considered rather weak - but they have 50x the content of any competitor. There is no way Verizon or Blockbuster-Echostar is going to invest the billions necessary to obtain those rights.

Wait, if Netflix has around 50x the content the nearest competitor has, then how is it weak? It may not be ideal, but it isn't weak.

It is weak, in that it doesn't feature the same depth of catalog, especially new releases, that their DVD library has. Yes, you can always find "something" to watch, but its a crummy last-place choice.

With Redbox and its peers, most often you simply walk away, choosing "none", even for $1.
