[WIN7] iTunes keeps crashing.

So iTunes was running okay on my Windows 7 machine. When I added that computer to iTunes "Match" it wouldn't get past step 1, it would crash and shut down. Microsoft reported back to me that I needed to update iTunes. So I did that...but having the same issue. Thing is, now, there is no way for me to get iTunes to run at all, as it attempts to restart iTunes Match as soon as it starts up. Any tips to get this resolved? I've reinstalled iTunes twice, but my guess is that it's not a clean uninstall since it tries to restart iTunes Match as soon as I start it up. (So iTunes Match is what is causing it to crash)

See if you can start iTunes with the option (alt) key down. If it works the same as on the Mac, it will ask you to choose or create an iTunes library. Create a new one, then, when iTunes opens, click on iTunes match on the left, and choose 'no thanks'. Quit iTunes, then open it again with the option/alt key, and chose your regular library.

iTunes has a nasty tendency of comprising your Firewall. Restore to default - reboot and see.

Also, is the app default to iTunes as it doesn't ring any bells.

I'll try that when I get home, although was hoping to get match working. I'll post back later.

Funny thing, googling the issue suggested to shut off firewall.

Match is part of itunes, but looks like it's sort this of still beta.

Good chance the query is winding up on Google since iTunes is problematic software.

I just saw Match on iTunes and declined further offers to see it. If it's Beta, that may be your root cause other than Firewall breaches.

Yes, overtop, delete and reinstall. It's on a Windows 7 Home Premium.

My next try is new user..

Okay, I narrowed down the problem. I ended up logging out of my Windows account, and logged into my sons name, (he doesn't use the device, btw) and ran iTunes, everything worked like it should have. So obviously somewhere there is an issue with my account.

Since that computer is not a primary, I am wondering the best way to proceed....delete my account after backing up, or would their be a better way to uninstall iTunes completely? Since that appears to be the problem....

I'd see if you can find a preference file (the equivalent of the .plist file on the Mac), and deleting it. It should rebuild on an iTunes restart, though you may lose your settings. Of course you should back up first.

Ahh..dag..it crashed again. Not sure what's going on here. Hopefully the next update will fix things...

Apple has a pretty good troubleshooting chart to go off of when you encounter problems with Itunes. They even have a user account section when the problem only occurs with a specific user account. You might want to follow through it. »support.apple.com/kb/TS1717
