JoelC707Premium join:2002-07-09 Stone Mountain, GA kudos:4 | I've got quite a few more than that. Probably 6 or so. If anyone else wants to try this let me know and I'll be happy to send the others to you for shipping cost only. I'd rather see someone get some use out of it (even if it is for fun) than they continue to sit around collecting dust or go to the trash. Though I had considered taking them to my GF's mom's house (she is park ranger of a BSA camp) and shooting them up LOL. |

JoelC707Premium join:2002-07-09 Stone Mountain, GA kudos:4 | reply to stevennb I've uncovered 9 drives I have marked as dead in some way and one that was with the others but isn't marked. It's a small 40GB IDE. I'm gonna test it and see if it's any good. Might see if someone wants it if it's good. One of these drives is an 80-pin SCSI drive (still standard 3.5") but it's still as dead as the others. Most are SMART tripped but some are making noises and one let out the magic smoke lol.
Got to go pick up my GF from school, been a busy day, I'll get a shipping quote when I get back. |

JoelC707Premium join:2002-07-09 Stone Mountain, GA kudos:4 | Alrightey, here's what we have for shipping options to 07470. I assume since these are already dead you don't mind minimal packing? Just enough to keep them from rattling around and not breaking the box? Larger box means heavier shipment which means higher shipping cost. These are done using a "single drive" box I got from a warranty replacement from WD but could fit probably 3 drives stacked in there (2 with plenty of peanuts). It's just a hair over 3 pounds with 2 drives in it which means for UPS/FedEx it would be 3 pounds but for USPS it will be 3.5 pounds
Priority mail - $10.80 Parcel post - $9.51
UPS Ground - $14.19
FedEx Home Delivery - $12.82
Parcel Post would be the slowest option, probably taking close to a week to get there, all the others would likely be about 2 days. These were basic quotes with no insurance or any special services added. Feel free to check the prices on your own if you want or if you have a different carrier in mind, my zip code is 30083. |

Re: Do you have a dead 3.5" hdd Can you post in the PC Hardware discussion forum with your results?
You got me interested now and I'm wondering if you can RAID the four flash drives, and how fast they are.

 | Re: Do you have a dead 3.5" hdd U can raid them. Seen something while searching google with it. Looks like you need Linux though for the program. I seen the tread too and thought that was what the OP was going to do. Looks great!
If anyone finds a "easy" way to raid them, please share! |
