[D3] No Public Chat Channels

Blizzard announced that there will ONLY be a private chat channel. This means you won't be able to advertise your gear or loot and must use their auction houses. I guess this is their way of getting their cut on all trades.

Savious, wWhat do you think of this little tidbit?

Guess this means that all the public games will have multiple toons joining to advertise game gold instead of just in general.

I am stating my opinion. Obviously you don't like it. Honestly, I don't care.

Dealing with trade spam back when I played D2 was miserable. I'm OK with this.

Soooooo... hey everyone. How's it going? Good? Weather ok? Great... so, right... You know how sometimes you say something that's stupid and wrong and then people very reasonably get upset and create a lot of threads and discussions and demands with some pretty reasonable reasons for the thing you said wouldn't happen but then it turns out that you're stupid and wrong and the things you said are completely the opposite of what's actually true?

Yeah. So that happened. Public chat channels will be in Diablo III, barring any catastrophe that requires we remove them, because they're already implemented. In fact they'll be in an upcoming beta patch so you'll get to see and play around with them yourselves.

I'm not sure I can offer any explanation as to the incorrectness of my statements, except that I believed them to be correct when I made them. I apologize, and I'll strive to not be stupid and wrong in the future.

More info on the chat feature, and others, to come in the weeks ahead. Thanks for sticking with it, and me.

I didn't follow the apparent shit storm....

What happened? What is the actual, reasonable reason for implementing them other than 'they've been part of battle.net for years'?

From what I read on the forums they first announced there would be no public chat. This created a lot of outrage. many claimed it was a blatant attempt to force players to use the RMAH and prevent players from making deals.

Blizzard has walked that back and now will include public chat channels. My guess and its only my opinion but I think Blizzard was floating atrial ballon to see what the reaction would be. If no one complained they would remove the public chat. But since people complained they left them in.

In what way would that force players to spend real money?

Pro-tip: it wouldn't.

There is supposed to be two AHs, correct? One for just trading in-game items for in-game currency and the other for cold, hard cash?

That is/was my understanding of the way it'll work. If that's still the case, there is no reason for outrage.

I am suprised Blizz has not implented something where items can only be sold from one character to another character only through their AH.

He is no longer with us. So the DSLR D3 Super Fan spot is open.

Fair enough, is anyone still interested on D3 based on this news, from what i've seen in the beta it seems that the formula has not changed a whole lot. I feel that 2012 is going to be filled with plenty other options to spend our hard earned money on.

As I said in the Social Gaming thread I started a while back..

I'm in it for the social experience. If Arch, Ant and Kris all pick up D3, I know I will so we can play together. If that included more DSLR folks too, great!

I re-subbed to WoW very recently to play with another DSLR member on his server.

I played a lot of D2 however many years ago. I really enjoyed Torchlight, too. I imagine D3 will be a great game to play for an hour with some friends.

I will say that I may have had words with Krisnatharok See Profile a time or two. Usually after he'd been drinking :P

I just did the annual sub as I have not gone more than 4 months out of a year un-subscribed to WoW. Planned on getting D3 anyways, so this just saves me money. I talked to the other dslr member, and while I don't see myself bringing a toon to your server (very attached to Stormrage) I do hope to get in on some of your raids available to Bnet friends.

I find that unless the game is just really good (Skyrim), the thing that keeps me playing are the people. I know Immer irl, and look to take advantage of these new features... hope to play D3 with more of you as well.
