| Interesting, I'm curious to find out what features EXO will provide to home phone.
I know you can't specify what it is, but I'd like to just put forth an idea and I hope someday it comes to fruition. Give people the ability to block numbers, easily, effectively, from their own phone. Telemarketers have gotten insane, scamming phone calls have risen. Just today we received a call from the same long distance number that has been harassing us, you pick up and they don't respond before hanging up. We called the number back, no answer, called it back from a cell phone, some foreign guy answers and starts screaming at us just dropping F bombs over and over.
Hows about you let people take ownership of your damn phone line. You might see subscription numbers rise if people get the ability to just stop harassing calls themselves. Free us from telemarketing hell, for the love of god.
Just a thought. |

 | Well damn. When did they add that? I should preface this by stating that I'm not yet a Shaw Home Phone customer because I'm waiting for the Gateway's to become available in Hamilton before switching over. |

kevinds join:2003-05-01 Calgary, AB kudos:1 | reply to ShawSean There has been 1080p VOD in the past, has been advertised beyond the past month, or am I wrong - The 3D VOD items were 1080p were they not?
The catch-up free episodes in VOD, they have been there for a long time - Or how is this different?
250 mbps internet with wifi, again, launched in select areas a bit ago.
As I said, I didn't/don't see anything new, but I could be wrong. So I am curious. -- Yes, I am not employed and looking for IT work. Have passport, will travel. |

| The WiFi hotspots are definitely new and at least confirmed as an added value. Although how much of an added value is yet to be seen dependent on the scope of the rollout. As it stands now, since it's only in test phase since December, it's only an added value in the cities that have coverage. -- Anon filter enabled. | ShawSean should really notify his superiors that posting market-speak on here will usually be counterproductive.
However having digested these "news" throughout the day, I would say:
A) Marketing campaigns work... EXO is as good a word as any, much better than Optik, but ...
B) I would much rather see Shaw sue Telus for misrepresenting Optik Internet, since a typical "moron in a hurry" (Legal term: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_moron_in_a_hurry) would definitely confuse Optik with Fiber Optic to Premises (Like I did). It would be public service, and I doubt that Shaw would get the court to bar Telus from using this name in their marketing but...
C) Shaw would do public service to all, and would get a great chance to push their "NO-BS" brand and attitude. Shaw has always been the best choice between Cable and DSL. Shaw has handled the UBB masterfully and very customer-centric. I think Shaw's marketing should:
Simplify the Internet plans Get some real TV packages (not the current get them all or get nothing) Push the phone features like Quntumfluxx is concerned about
and probably figure out a way to cut their budget,
cause it seems that they are running wild with redesigns, sales, and BS
Then Shaw should set realistic targets for customer service hold times, work out a step ladder for CRS/TSR - oriented towards low turn-over. And spend all their excess capital on actual equipment, laying fiber (since that's almost an eternal investment), and quit worrying about the competitor. Eventually offering Fiber to premises.
Also quit posting market speak to nerds... |

 | said by ilianame:A) Marketing campaigns work... EXO is as good a word as any, much better than Optik, but ... I agree that marketing works. I disagree that EXO is a good choice. It doesn't mean anything. It doesn't evoke anything. And so far Shaw's ads don't assign any meaning to it. Brands like Fibe and Optik have a technology association while also sounding kind of cool. EXO? So far I give Shaw props for recognizing Telus' success, but I give Shaw poor marks for execution.
Is that sort of like how Shaw's "Most HD Content" claim could easily be interpreted as most HD channels, but instead means most HD OnDemand movies? Or perhaps how Shaw's claim of best HD Quality doesn't refer to any study of picture quality, but rather their use of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 codes, which are also used by their competitors?
and probably figure out a way to cut their budget,
cause it seems that they are running wild with redesigns, sales, and BS Shaw suffers from poor leadership, which is why they've made so many stumbles lately. Shaw has a leadership problem at the very top. Everything else that we see publicly is a side effect of that. Shaw has lots of unexploited potential, but they lack a discernible strategy and thus haven't executed well over the past few years. |

| Shaw, at least in my area of Edmonton, tries to run local call centers with locally staffed employees. While training these employees with limited resources and time becomes an issue, they should be commended for trying to do this over outsourcing the work overseas.
Every time i deal with a local customer service rep that is not quite up to date on technical specs i remind myself that they are just a normal person trying to do their best with what they have been taught.
There is no reason to outsource call centers to countries that can do it cheaper via sacrificing workers rights /wages IE, heck if we want foreign sounding reps to answer the phones we got plenty of them here in Edmonton already, no need to outsource!
This effort to hire locally is perhaps something that Shaw would do well to emphasize in their marketing as it is something that everyone can appreciate; I know that I appreciate it. |

 | reply to ShawSean I prefer to see detailed episode info ie. episode # and, date aired on all VOD and Tv show info and pvr info. Also a favorites option to mark VOD tv series liked. Shaw needs to slow down and get what they have working properly and feature filled. |
