 | Position of RG cause heating issues and related problems? Does putting the RG upright on one of its small sides using the tray that fits the side to brace it in that position (lights going up and down in this position) reduce heat and cause less problems?
I always had my RGs down on the units' natural bottom without that tray attached (lights going across in this position) but because of less space in the RGs new location after moving it to another room after recent new wiring, I turned the RG upright on its side with that bracing tray now attached
I noticed the RG is markedly less hot now - almost not even warm. Even the side which used to be its bottom before is barely warmer than room temperature, whereas previously it was so warm/hot to the touch that you would not want to touch it very long (it would not burn you of course, but it was pretty hot.)
I had a past episodes of random retrains. Would the previous heating have likely been part of the problem? |

| I'm sure that having it vertical makes it cooler, as less RG surface is being blocked by whatever surface it is sitting on. I've always had mine vertical, as well as my Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, pretty much everything that can be vertical. Though, my Xbox 360 RRoDed 3 times and my PS3's fan has started to go crazy loud, so I'm not sure how much it is helping those particular machines, but generally I think that it makes devices run cooler to have them vertical.
I doubt your RG overheated while being horizontal though, as long as it wasn't on a soft surface, it has little feet that raise it up for airflow when it's horizontal, but I can still imagine that heat can build up and create a sort of "pocket" of warm air under the device.
Who knows though... It could be the cooler running, or it could be the fact that it's in a different room (different lines I'm assuming) that made it act better, either way, glad to hear that it is doing better for you . |
 | reply to nine9s2 It was pretty hot before. The top would be warmer than most electronics, about like the back of an old CRT tv after it was on all day, and the bottom would get so hot, it was actually uncomfortable to touch it very long. |
