Salty updates?

Getting a rare one was a pain in the ass. I finally got my rare by fishing on the lake east of Goldshire.

I did some research when I got home and it turns out that they did stealth nerf Salty by making it easier to get the "one that got away" achieve. If you fish at Darkmoon island the droprate is much better, and you can get a new companion pet (a sea horse).

I got the sea horse on the second cast and the rare fish on the 153rd. That's after thousands of catches of the herrings in howling fjord. I'm finally Salty Ninefingers

Fishing has really pissed me off, I fish a good deal, not for the salty achieve, but I want the Turtle. I fish a 3-4 times a week because feast mats sell so well.

It didn't take me long to get the turtle by fishing the pools in Howling Fjord. If you really want it, I suggest that. I think it only drops from pools though.

Yeah, I have read that it only drops in pools and I only fish in pools unless I am fishing up some deepsea sage fish. I have fished close to 3500 fish, I know that isnt a lot to you extreme anglers, but I know people who have fished it up while lvling fishing. It is very annoying. But I still fish because the money is good.

It's flat luck. I got mine fishing up a 15 lb mudfish in Org while trying for Ol' Crafty.

I think its bad game design to have 1/10000 drops be a requirement for a reward. I'm glad they seem to have given people a way around this absurd random luck road-block by making the rare fish off the shores of darksmoon island apparently have a much better drop rate.

I don't think it diminishes the value of the achieve or title at all. The only difference between me and someone who had the achieve before this stealth nerf is that they were luckier on 1 drop than me, which is only 1/20th of the perquisite requirements you have to do to qualify.

I have had the Salty title since back in Wrath and i can tell you no matter when you got it the time spent on getting it it makes it one that's not as wide spread as some AKA Jenkins title.

It would be nice however to receive a feat of strength or something for completing it before they nerfed it.

So, aside from "the one that got away" nerf, was anything else nerfed to it? Like winning the fishing tourney being removed, etc.?

I may try it out this weekend. I don't know why I want the turtle mount. I am over 100 so there is no benefit in having more, just kind of want it.

What about fishing on PVE servers while being flagged in a rival faction city? As a hordie....not looking forward to being repeatedly ganked in ironforge. Any experience with this? Tips?

Ironjaw is not part of the Salty Meta acheivement. its just an achivement that you can get.

If im not mistaken you do need the fishing diplomat though. its easy to get. What i did as a horde toon was go to the top corner in westfall on the beach. Drink a water walking potion and mount up and ride to stormwind harbor. as soon as you see the red letters announing stormwind you can fish and have it count towards the acheivment.

You can set your alarm for 4am and try it.

On the other hand, I didn't have much of a problem doing it during sane hours. I've fished next to horde in Iron Forge and I've had Horde fishing next to me in Orgimar. With waves and /cheers when I got the achiev. But, eventually someone will hit you and you'll wish you weren't in your fishing gear. Part of the fun IMHO.
