Dlink 254 DHCP issue

I'm on Windows 7 and I'm connected to my router via ethernet.

Everytime I reboot my computer I don't have access to the internet. I've checked the status page and it says "DHCP client disconnected". Everytime I click the DHCP Renew button it times out.

I have to goto my router page and do the wizard. I am then switched to "network 2" in Windows 7 and have access to the internet. But once I am switched to "Network 2", I don't have access to my router page anymore and the wifi doesn't work. I checked ipconfig and my ip is my internet IP and not my LAN's and my gateway is my ISP's I believe. I have tried setting my IP manually to 192.168.0.xxx and I lose internet as soon as I do.

I've updated to the latest firmware. I've done complete resets via the hole in the back of the router multiple times. I'm at a lost, help!

Can you set up reserved IP addresses for your PC ON the router?

How can I do that?

Log into the routers web page? usually at 192.168.0.1

Ok I set the IP to 192.168.0.190 which was within the DHCP server range but there was still no net. Could it be an ISP issue?

Yes could be ISP modem issue. Can you connect to the modem directly with a PC and get internet?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

Modem is a stand alone. The thing is, this setup used to work just fine. If I connect the modem directly to the PC my internet works fine.

When I reboot my computer, my ip changes back to the 192.168.0.1xx but I have no internet. I then run the dlink wizard and have internet but my ip changes to my public IP and I lose access to my router as if I'm not even connected to the internet through my router.

When I have access to my router page, the WAN has no IP. DHCP client disconnected. Clicking the DHCP Renew button will only result in timeouts.

Seems like the 524 isnt' getting an IP address correctly maybe.
Can you check the status page on the router to see if it's getting DNS IP addresses?

I would do a factory reset of the router, log in to the routers web page. Don't use the wizard, go to the status page and see if the WAN and DNS addresses are being filled in. It should be.

I would swap cables too between modem and router and test.
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Ok I did as you said and resetted the router, went to the status page and the WAN and DNS are blank (0.0.0.0). DHCP Client is still disconnected and Renew timesout still. I have also tried swapping cables and it's the same result. I have a Scientific Atlanta 2100 as the modem.

I noticed it took a couple resets before the router actually resetted (I had to input password to login to the page instead of leaving it blank). On one of the resets, the router wanted me to reinstall the firmware and so I did. Also, the Status-Logs page shows DHCP Discover about 5 times then DCHP Discover no response. The status-stats page shows the WAN as receiving 0 packets and transmitting 1200 when I checked.

Figured it out. Apparently cable wasn't connected to the WAN port. Geez, that was dumb. Thanks for your help in all of this.
