AT&T U-verse Modem

Hello,

I am thinking about switching to AT&T U-verse but was wondering if someone would give me the specifications of the 12mbps modem they use to connect to their servers. I know it's a fibre-optic connection through a phone-like port but can't seem to see the exact modem.

I'm not particularly interested in a 3rd party modem but since AT&T forces you to buy the modem completely I was wondering if any former customers were selling their modems for less. I assume the modem they'll send me is their "Motorola DSL Modem Model 3360" on their site but I wanted to make sure I was shopping for the right item. Is this the right modem to look for? Are there any other alternatives? Thanks!

Motorola DSL Modem Model 3360 only work for At&t DSL, not Uverse internet. There are two different kind of Uverse internet. One is ADSL2+ and other one is VDSL2+. ADSL2+ modems are such as Motorola NVG510, Motorola 2210-02-1att and some. VDSL2+ modem is just 2Wire 3600 You should check your address at AT&T uverse website to show what kind of modem is require. Happy shopping!

The fiber optic connection is at the VRAD which is a box located somewhere in your neighborhood. Your home connection will be the 2 wire line used for POTS service. The RG will connect to this 2 wire line. Everything else in your home connects to the RG, STBs, Phone, WIFI. Google these items if you need more info.

It's not fiber optic, uverse use regular phone cables... the same cable that you have in your home right now.

Thanks for all the info!!! As I am reading your answers I remembered the fibre-optic part is not in my house (D'oh!) and feel quite embarrassed.

I just did some more digging and found that the modem they'll give me is the "IP IG51X Internet Gateway." My main question is if I find an "IP IG51X" from someone else will it still connect me to my service or should I just fork out the $100 and be done with it?

Seems to be right on the money. A search for the IP IG51X nets that the real product is really the Motorola NVG510. The same questions still stands; can I buy a separate Motorola NVG510 for less than AT&T's price and still connect to my service?

honestly.. Im not sure if at&t let you buy cheaper modem somewhere than AT&t website. I used to have 2wire 3600hgv modem and they ARE making me to buy new same modem again because I "re-sign" for new internet service. Ur best bet is to call customer service if ask them if they can let you use your own modem

I started uverse internet service in mid january. at&t sent me a NVG510 modem. from reading this forum, sounds like at&t IPDSLAM only supports motorola nvg510, motorola 2210-02-att1 (black one), 2wire 2701hgv-b. i wanted to buy a used modem instead of paying at&t $100 for the new nvg510. there were a few 2wire 2701hgv-b and motorola 2210-02-att1 available on craigslist. the nvg510 was only available on ebay. i bought an one-year old 2701hgv-b on craigslist for $20. i plug it in and it works perfectly. however, i have seen threads of people who had trouble getting used modems to work.

AT&T told me it was fiber optic. I am stuck with this since last summer, still crap, counting the days till contract is over. It will be gone. Getting my 3rd modem, opps they forgot to ship it so are now sending a 4th one.
