Re: [HN7000S] HN download speeds on East Coast

Well, tonight is one of those nights when it's really bad. Did the speed test on HN and got 90/197, reset computer, linksys and modem (7000) and now I get 55/197. Cool. I think it's time for exede. This is getting old.

But I need to try to see the push pull test first. I'm pretty sure there is not blockage from my dish and I doubt if the earthquake we had skewed the dish that much.

Other option is to spend an hour on the phone to India and have a nice hour long conversation about how good their economy is doing and no results on Hughes.

Here's the advanced stats if it means anything.

UGH.

OH, boy, it just went up to 108/97. Real speed.

OK, I did the push pull test and everything I did made the signal go from it's usual 68/69 down to 40 or so, so it must be pointed at the right place. Any more ideas?

Just to confirm, you pushed/pulled both right/left AND up/down - and only saw the signal level go down. Correct? If no, please repeat. If yes, are you willing to look at signal levels on other transponders on the same satellite? That of course assumes that there are any other active Hughes-leased transponders on that bird.

Yes, pushed/pulled all 4 up/down/right/left and same thing happens, sig goes down, but I was moving it pretty good, I could see the thing move about 1/2", I didn't try a light push/pull, it's snowing and I didn't want to hang around. Maybe when it clears up again, I can try smaller push/pulls. It actually kind of skews when I push and pull it because of the way it's mounted.

I haven't a clue how I could tell the sig levels on any of the other transponders.

I remember one time when it was getting real bad, I think they moved me to a different freq and transponder, but that was a long time ago and I was just plugging in numbers the guy was reading off to me. I think it was the upper level service dept. in FL. I think there was a upgrade involved with the modem too. Not that I ever write anything down. But it sure worked better after that.

Well, I'd do somewhat the same thing. I just don't have all the current transponder info available to me that those support types do. The most current list I can find shows 3 other Hughes-leased transponders on AMC9. Two appear to be for business accounts, the other is one you could possibly move to - IF the signal levels look significantly better. But let's wait for the final results of your push/pull test first.
