New TV Question

Looking to buy a new tv and can't really decide between a few specs. I want a 60''...either a DLP (Currently have one and am very happy with it) or LED.
I've read a ton about refresh rate...in a round about way the LED's are usually 120 whereas the DLP that i'm looking at is 60hz...The DLP can be 120hz for about $300 more.
What would you suggest? Is LED any better on quality or is it just a durability issue? Is 120hz worth a few hundred dollars over 60 Hz?

I have 72in Toshiba dlp tv and a 42 in Sony LCD. The lLCD run circles around the DLP. I might get a new tv this fall and it may be a Sharp 80 led tv but no dlp. Do not get me wrong the dlp is a good tv.

LCD/LED any day! FYI the difference between LCD/LED is the back lighting. Both are LCD, the LCD is lit by incandescent lighting the LED is lit by Light Emitting Diodes. DLP has always been lit by incandescent too. LED much more reliable and much better with expected life. Also, 120hz refresh will always eat 60hz for lunch.

That's fluorescent, not incandescent, in both cases, and the difference between a 60hz and 120hz refresh rate is insignificant. Most people can't tell the difference. Doesn't matter, really, as 120 is becoming the norm. Also, LEDs come two ways- a full back panel of LEDs or just edge lit. A full panel is more expensive, but better. Edge lit is less expensive, but is subject to the "flashlight" effect.

The problem with DLP's is that they are a form of projection TV. The DLP chip is expensive, so on consumer models, it does triple-duty for all 3 colors. Older ones used a lamp and an actual spinning wheel to get the 3 colors, sometimes causing a color-strobe effect. Newer DLP's spin the wheel faster, or are now using LED's or even lasers with a higher refresh rate.

One issue with 120Hz or 240Hz is how the video is processed. By default, most TV's try to interpolate new frames when doubling or quadrupling. That can cause films to get a video look, which can look weird. It's often very jarring when it looks normal at first, then suddenly goes smooth. Most TV's have a way to tone down or basically disable it. They will usually simply do frame-repeats instead of interpolation. (For my Sony, you have to change Cinemotion to Auto2 to disable interpolation.)
