I'm 3 minutes in, am impressed, and love his cat. However, there is no way I'm going to stick 8 120 GB SSD drives in a single PC. Counting the SSD drives in my home, I have 6 128 GB in the smaller rigs, 2 256 GB on my larger PC's, and a 32 GB SSD that came with a router which doesn't yet have a duty assignment. There is no way I'd put all that into one PC.

I love people that experiment though. Water cooling scares me as in my experience things leak eventually.

I thought my 3 SSD raid 0 was nuts this bring the word nuts to a whole new leval. only 1 problem is you lose 1 drive you lose the EVERYTHING AND I DO MEAN EVERYTHING. I would have gone the Revo drive route my self.

Unless he runs regular backups. With a rig like that maybe he can afford Mozy 24/7 or some such.

He is a product manager for NCIX. I wonder if he gets free hardware. NCIX is a e-tailer like new egg.

It's interesting. I hope he gets to enjoy his build. It looks like a lot of work. Most of my builds get assembled in an hour or so after the last part arrives. The OS is either installed that day, or the next.

Anyway, it's late for me, we'll see if any other posts are appended to this thread in the morning. Thanks for sharing it.

Does Micro Center have really good cookies or what ...

Click for full size
Image of a PC build Micro Center send via email this morning
So I watched the build last night, and it was interesting. Then Micro Center sends me a picture of the above suggested build by email this morning.

Do they know what I'm looking at??

8x120 = 960GB, easily backed up on a 1TB+ RAID.

It just like for show stuff... here you want lolz, check this out.

About all I like is the jumping and PC still working... PITA throw the laptop on the roof and it locks up.

TBH if you wanted insane, he would be running phase change not water. Water is pretty common... phase is not and the ssds are just stupid IMO.

Blocked... is that the British video of connecting dozens of SSDs to one computer, jumping on the trampoline with it, and then ripping a DVD faster than it can be thrown out the window and hit the ground? Awesome.

I started to zone out a little when he made mention of the cathodes but beyond that it was interesting. Things like color schemes, UV tubes / cables as well as superfluous lights have no value to me and seem a little childish IMO.

My thoughts exactly. If it doesn't make the computer more powerful in some regard it's a useless addition.

I'm not sure how anal somebody has to be to worry about what color something is painted or plated in his PC is. If it works it works if it doesn't the color isn't going to matter any. In this case it's even in his home so it's not as if it's in a showplace location.

It's all about looking 133t. Ego, my system is better and cooler than yours. Some hungry and/or sick kids could be saved, but no, let's spend 10,000 on a system that we positively don't need.

Linus is pretty much their 'mascot' for advertising. Getting all that hardware is a perk of the job. A normal kid his age wouldn't be able afford all that on a regular pay check.

Come up with an idea to market bleeding-edge hardware to the masses. NCIX rolled with the idea and it worked out well for him. To correct you, NCIX is not just an e-tailer. They have a few stores in the lower mainland of British Columbia.

I am pretty sure he said he uses the youtube cash to buy that stuff (be it I am sure at a lower cost than a normal person + I am sure he also gets free stuff to demo from companies)

Personally, there are a lot of jobs I'd rather have than one that lets me have hardware I don't need. As much as I like nice hardware and love the technology that makes things possible, I care very little for conspicuous consumption and excessive spending. Like I say, if I had that kind of money I'd be giving to St. Jude's and Feed the Children, this kind of obsessive consumption I find offensive.

A job I DO want involves tech and computers, but the production of something, rather than the consumption of something.

Sorry if I am a spoil sport, but honestly, this bothers me, not because I can't afford it, but because there are people and things much more deserving of money spent.

I agree with you one that. I would build me a nice system and the rest of the hardware i would sell and give the money to needy people.
