Re: [new forum] Request for a new forum I think a better job in posting the links to the company forums need to be done instead. I searched for 5 minutes going backwards and tried to find the Electronixbox forum using the links at the top of the page left side. Forums > Company Forums » Companies beginning with E » ELECTRONICBOX
I wasn't able to find the links to the list of Companies beginning with [ insert any letter ].
I knew it exists only because someone else found it and posted a link to it in a thread before. In two weeks when that thread is buried, the ebox link will be too. IMHO this is why most of these secondary forums are dead or dying. They are just almost impossible to find by following the main forums categories.
In the ad-hoc forums, canadian companies are mixed in together with US companies. Electronic box is missing from the list as many other small companies. If a canadian only ad-hoc forum was created and a link to it added in the empty spot at the canadian forums list that would be a great improvement. »Canadian
BTW: searching for forums names by keywords in the upper left corner of the page here »Canadian it generated these results on mouse over the search box.

I'll make you a deal. Make the Electronic Box forum easy to find on the website, and then maybe everyone who wants to post there will. As it stands now, like the commenter above stated, it is impossible to find by linking..... -- cogito ergo manduc |

If someone would be willing to take to time to compile a list of Canadian service providers that have ad-hoc forums on the site, I'll post it as a sticky at the top of the Canadian Broadband forum and link to it in the forum navigation. |

| reply to SHY It is linked near the top of the Electronic Box review page: »Company entry - ELECTRONICBOX
At the top of the main review page you can type in the name and a link to the forum appears in the dropdown list: »/reviews

It doesn't really matter where the forum is, as long as folks KNOW that it is there and can FIND it, by browsing a list or a drop-down selector of some kind.
I would reckon that this observation would apply to quite a few other Indie ISPs, both of Canada AND the US.
And splitting whatever list there may already be in to Canadian and US lists might help, as suggested above by Velix, as a basis for the list which you need, and we can of course add to it.
Perhaps a thread could be started in Canadian Broadband forum, asking everyone to post just the Name and website URL of any Canadian ISP which comes to mind.
Links to other lists might qualify too, if they are current on their respective keepers' websites.
Either way, you'd have that list in a hurry ! |

 | reply to SHY I see no reason not to give Ebox it's own space in the Canadian section. In fact, the existing forum could simply be moved from the alphabetical section to the Canadian section.
Note I am not a customer now, but I was in the past. |

You are saying that such a list does not already exist somewhere on DSLR ?
I see some incomplete partial lists here and there, but the link from Fatness for eBox does not seem to be on any of them. |

| There use to be a public link to the list of providers, but I don't know where the link is publicly-clickable on the site any more. This is the link: »/isplist/0 (there should be an alphabet to click at the top)
Clicking on the flag symbols to sort by country this is the Canadian provider list: »/isplist?c=ca Some don't appear Canadian, some may be no longer in business. I'm sure state would appreciate any input about that. Thanks. -- hey Dale |

They WORK !
THANKS !
I've been on those pages, sometime in the past, and bookmarked them, prob'ly in another computer or browser, though do not see them right now, nor do I remember how I got there LAST time.
I have a feeling though that it was indirectly through the part of DSLR where people post reviews of service providers, but will have to double check.
Anyway, THIS gives us a running start, as all we need to do is some URL testing, copying and pasting, and submitting to State.

| It's a good link to save on your minibar; that's where I keep it.
Each one of those provider review listings, when clicked, will probably display a listing for the respective provider forums. -- hey Dale |

Yes with this it should be much much simpler to build a working forum list. You might want to check with the canadian isp lists to check if some major ISP are missing just in case. |

DavesnothereNo-BHELL-ity DOES have its Advantages join:2009-06-15 START&Cogeco kudos:6 | The number code for the Ad-Hoc forum main page for an ISP is the same as that of the list's details page for that same ISP.
So if a person had 2 browser windows or tabs open, one with the list, and another with an existing ad-hoc forum displayed, such as one of two which I posted in my new thread....
They could hover the mouse pointer over an ISP name link in the list page and the status line will reveal its forum code number.
(Even TSI's OLD forum is available there.)
Memorize and type the number part you see on the status line, to edit the other window or tab's URL & then hit [Enter] to get the next forum. (unless there are direct links which I missed, leading to each forum, in the list) |

said by Davesnothere:....nor do I remember how I got there LAST time.
I have a feeling though that it was indirectly through the part of DSLR where people post reviews of service providers, but will have to double check.... Here's how to get there from scratch :
Go to REVIEWS tab. Select any recent review (click link). In that review page, below the 6-Month Rating Bar, click on one of the links to see other reviews for that ISP. The next screen will include a row of GREY Tabs, which includes a tab called 'ISP Roldex'. THAT's the one ! Click ! Then click on flag for country of choice.
(I was logged in when I did that - not sure whether it matters) |

Re: [new forum] Request for a new forum I'm not sure what State and you expect of this list.
I mean, do you want *ALL* currently functioning ISP's? All ISP's that existed? All ISP's that take up at least a few posts in the Canadian Broadband forum?
The whole shabang would be a messy useless list since many are defunct, so it can't be that.
All currently functioning ISP would also be messy since there are some clowns out there (recall westsavvy)?
So w/o knowing the exact specifics I'll take a stab at this for state, since I like his fuzzy blue grin.
I will add to this here and there as my brain cell starts to work (no promises) and limit it to only those that my brain cell can recall people had in the forum and at least made reference to.
1. Acanac: » Acanac 2. Ebox: »ELECTRONICBOX 3. Nexicom: »Nexicom 4. Velcom: »Velcom 5. Caneris: »Caneris 6. CFB Pet Net: (We only see a post from them like once or twice a year. Not sure if they are down. Ad-hock wireless on a military base): »CFB Pet Net 7. Colbanet: »Colbanet 8. Comptom Communications: »Compton Communications The forum looks funny. Did they undergo a name change? 9. MNSi: »MNSi 10. Mornington Communications: »Mornington Communications 11. MTS: »MTS 12. Novus: »Novis (BC and Toronto specific area's only) Also, they have two forums here. See: »Novus Entertainment Inc 13. Primus: »Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc. 14. Radioactif: »Radioactif 15. SaskTel: »SaskTel (this is the gov owned telco who charges 10,600$ for 800-meg) 16. ViF: »VIF Internet 17. Wightman Telecom (FTTH & DSL): »Wightman Telecom 18. Xplornet: »Xplornet 19. AEI Internet: » AEI Internet 20. Yak: » Yak Communications 21. Bruce Telecom (DSL and FTTH): » Bruce Telecom
Then there are other ISP's that no one really uses except their own sales-people who try to get people to join them. I excluded those.
Is this a good start for you?
Do I get 1 free troll for a good deed? |
