 | [OOL] Modem or Router dropping connection? I need some help. For the last 3-4 weeks I have been getting horrible speeds and latency in prime time hours. It can be perfect all day but as soon as 8-11 est hit My latency will go from 30-100+ connecting to a chicago data center. DL speeds will drop from 50+ to 10-15ms. Recently however also almost everyday I lose internet connection. The lights are all locked on my modem (Arris) and my router is giving off a signal to all devices but no internet is established. this ONLY gets fixed when i unplug and replug the modem. I thought maybe it was a router issue but it has happened on both a cheap belkin and my linksys e4200 also trying to just unplug and replug the router alone to reset it doesnt work. I checked the logs on my modem and see numerous DHCP RENEWAL WARNINGS and something like T3 CONNECTION TIMEOUT. I really dont know what any of that means and a technician is coming tomorrow but any help or info here to prepare me for the visit would be appreciated.
thanks, |

| Connect directly to the modem during prime time, and see what the latency / speeds are, but if you tried two routers your issue is likely the modem, ingress, or a crowded node.
How many channels are bonded on your Arris? -- NOTHING justifies terrorism. We don't negotiate with terrorists. Those that support terrorists are terrorists. |

 | how do I check that? |

 | thanks, looks like 4 channels, also the latency problem happens when i bypass the router. Also I should mention I connect wired not wireless. |

 | reply to Tshaddzz A T3 timeout has nothing to do with your router, so it's good that someone's coming to check it out. The DHCP renewal warning happens for me just before the IP is renewed every 24 hrs on the dot without an interruption on my Arris, so I don't worry about it. Only if the time corresponds to an actual interruption time should you concern yourself about the DHCP message. |

Hope that helps you to understand some issues |

 | reply to Tshaddzz I've been experiencing the same symptoms ... called Cablevision, they remotely took a look and decided it was the "wire between the router and the modem" LOL. I dutifully replaced it, but the problem continues. I've been waiting for it to recur during a "non-busy" time when I can call and have them troubleshoot, and maybe schedule a Tech visit. So ... I appreciate you following up if you're able to get yours resolved! Please keep us posted! Thanks |

SR1 @optonline.net | reply to Tshaddzz I've had enough of corporate nonsense. If any tech or staff reads this, know that you have the worst system on the planet. I get a dead signal every time it reaches a decent download speed. What are you guys doing over there? No one will help, no one will listen. It's been like this since last summer. |

 | Tech came to the house today. He was very nice and helpful. He replaced the wires and modem, however in the end all I was told is the signal looks fine and the cause may be the router.... He also told me in regards to speeds that "you have to understand many people here have ool and during peak hours you will see higher latency and slower speeds" well, i may be switching to fios after a little more research. I looked at it today and they want a $125.00 deposit for 2 DVR's and triple play, not the best but ive heard of worse for deposits lol. |

 | also in mahwah, having the exact same issue. Latency issues and modem completely losing connection to the internet until it reconnects. I've power cycled, i've tried wired connections, it's not an issue with any of your hardware, It started for me around the same time you started this thread. Hasn't gotten any better for me. |

 | reply to Tshaddzz If you are seeing problems during a certain time of day, try and schedule your service call during that time.
I can see how there might possibly be some slowness during "prime" hours -- but you should not get modem resets. It sounds like something else is wrong. |
