 | [DVR] HD DVR fuctionality changed after switch to XFinity Comcast switched our area over to 100& digital, XFinity last night. My regular HD boxes remote controls are fine, nothing changed. However, on the HD DVR box the remote control now has duplicated buttons that perform the same function to control the DVR playback. The buttons on top and now the 4 white buttons in the middle. WHY!?!?! Because someone is too lazy to slide their thumb up two inches to control?
This is extremely annoying! Now, I have to hit the Guide Button and select the station to just see whats playing 2 hours in advance. I liked where I was able to just hit the right white arrow key and see whats playing next.
There is also no way to change this back to the original way in the software. This should have been programmed to have it either way!!!! But no, Comcast once again thinks whats best for all customers and doesn't think out of the box. Just plan ignorant!!!! |

| I noticed that issue as well with the arrow buttons on the remote duplicating the DVR control functions but I got used to it. Um have you tried hitting the OK/Select button first then use the arrow buttons? That allows you to use the mini guide. Similiarly the non DVR boxes work the old way same as before the software change. |

For iGuide, the arrow keys were always alternates to the transport keys. That allowed DVR's to be controlled by some earlier remotes that didn't have the controls. You always have to use Guide to get the main guide, or OK/Select to get the mini-guide first. |

I personally like that the four-direction keypad controls the DVR. I use this remote:

to control a Motorola DVR setup every day. (For someone who MUST have dedicated DVR buttons, this particular remote has them under a slide panel....)
As ridiculous as it sounds, yes - for me, the newer, busier Comcast remotes are literally too much to handle. YMMV. I don't know that I'd call it laziness as much as simply never needing two hands. |

| reply to yhp Comcast started giving these out »www.ebay.com/itm/Comcast-Time-Wa···18b5536b, which is what I'm currently using, even though I still have this »www.ebay.com/itm/Time-Warner-Cab···6ab55bca when Comcast was giving them out years ago. It worked well with SARA and actually works even better with the 2.0 guide since the page up/page down button command support was put back in after Comcast took it out in SARA. |

"It's beyond my control." they have to say
"It's not currently on our feature roadmap." |

AT&T and Dish offer PIP. The other providers listed including TiVo don't as far as I can tell using an internet search. |

My vintage 2004 Panasonic DVR had it. (But tragically, not the incredibly important one-click-buy integration with Home Shopping Network.)
But don't worry - just wait a while, and once Congress gets through with shutting down the Internet, they'll explicitly outlaw PIP, and Comcast will finally have an excuse. |

 | reply to Russ Here's another one.. - Cannot power off the DVR when recording.
This was doable prior to the upgrade, even with double recordings going. |
