| [Help] New Rims/Tires on 1999 Camaro, looking for advice/info. Ok I have a 1999 Chevy Camaro v6 T-Top.
As of right now i have stock rims, Spec I have found state that it is
Size : 16" x 8" Backspacing : 6.875" (60mm Offset?) Bolt pattern : 4.75"
Tires are 215/55-16 (Previous Owner, Stock should be 215/60-16)
Looking at tire rack, I found some Sport Tuning T5 rims I'm eying
Offset: +48mm Backspacing: 6.18" Bolt Pattern: 5-475 Rec. Tire Size:245/50-16 Weight: 21.0lbs.
Should/Can I put the 2115/60-16's back on or just switch to the rim's recommended 245/50-16?
Now while I would like the Speedometer correct its not a huge deal (It been of ever since iv have had the car) I have a Ultragauge in this car so I can get a calibrated speed, Main concerns are handeling, ride/feel, fit, etc. -- ASUS M4A79T Deluxe | AMD Phenom II x3 720 BE AM3 w/4 Cores @ 3.41Ghz(OC) | 4Gb DDR3 Memory @ 1600mhz | Sapphire ATI HD4870 1GB 800mhz/1000mhz(OC) | 2x500GB HDD's Raid 0 | Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Build 7600 (RTM) | Windstream DSL 12m (14.9m Sync)/766k |

|
 | Haven't decided on tires, they just suggest 245/50-16. |

| The suggestions they make on tirerack.com are usually accurate, so it wouldn't throw off your speedometer, etc if you went with that size.
More rubber on the road never hurts too, each tire would be a little over an inch wider all around. Would make the car look way more aggressive than the pizza cutters the previous owner put on the car.

If your car is an automatic, it will shift better too since vehicle speed is one of the factors used to determine shift points.

| Wow those are some odds lol.
Now the 245/50-16 are 1.8% smaller in diameter thus 1.8% faster on the speedometer, then the stock tire 215/60-16. but will be 1.5% slower then it is now.
The 245/50-16's are the recommended tire size for the new rims.
215/55-16 Is what is on the stock rims now.
And 215/60-16 is what should be on the stock rims.
After using »www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp and doing some tire and wheel calculations it said that the combination of the new rims and tires would make them stick out 1.1" from current/stock. -- ASUS M4A79T Deluxe | AMD Phenom II x3 720 BE AM3 w/4 Cores @ 3.41Ghz(OC) | 4Gb DDR3 Memory @ 1600mhz | Sapphire ATI HD4870 1GB 800mhz/1000mhz(OC) | 2x500GB HDD's Raid 0 | Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Build 7600 (RTM) | Windstream DSL 12m (14.9m Sync)/766k |

MooJohn join:2005-12-18 Milledgeville, GA | The best part about buying from the Tire Rack is that they guarantee the right fit for their suggested sizes. The Camaro has plenty of wheelwell room and the 245s should fill them nicely without worrying about rubbing or sticking out too far.
In your suggested size, the General Altimax HP looks like a good choice for cruising (came in first in all-season passenger tire test) while the Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 (tied for first in high performance all-season) is also nice and would be a little sportier.
If your purchase ships from their Savannah (actually Midway) location you'll receive them the next day, mounted & balanced and ready to bolt onto the car. -- John M - Cranky network guy |

| UPDATE: After lots of contemplating and research, went with Michelin HydroEdge with Green X P225/60-16 97t
Mainly to keep them from sticking out to far do to the rims lower offset, these will stick out .3" compared to .7" with 245's.
Found a guy in near Atlanta who can change the computers tire size setting and even tune it while hes at it.
Now the new question becomes, What Air pressure.
Door says 30psi for the stock P235/55-16 96t
Found a formula to calulate it except I dont know what the Max PSI was for the tiers on the car from the factory.
[Original Tires Max Load Rating] * [Sticker's Recommended P.S.I.] / [Original Tires Max P.S.I.] * [New Tires Max P.S.I.] / [New Tires Max Load Rating].
New tires are 44psi Max.
If I do
1565 * 30 / 35 * 44 / 1609 = 36.7 PSI
1565 * 30 / 44 * 44 / 1609 = 29.2 PSI

MooJohn join:2005-12-18 Milledgeville, GA | The door sticker is just for the OEM tire's best ride -- not necessarily its best performance or longevity.
I would suggest 34-36 psi for that size & type of tire. It'll give the tread plenty of bite and still be firm enough for good mileage too. -- John M - Cranky network guy |

Will report back. Well they came in today, which i was not expecting.
They came with 36psi so I decided to leave it and get a feel and see how it goes.
Only took it for a quick test drive and can defiantly feel a difference.
Pics of before and after attached, the afters have extra space in the wheel well because I had the rear tire jacked up when I took the Pic, but IMO I like they way they look, style and size. -- ASUS M4A79T Deluxe | AMD Phenom II x3 720 BE AM3 w/4 Cores @ 3.41Ghz(OC) | 4Gb DDR3 Memory @ 1600mhz | Sapphire ATI HD4870 1GB 800mhz/1000mhz(OC) | 2x500GB HDD's Raid 0 | Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Build 7600 (RTM) | Windstream DSL 12m (14.9m Sync)/766k |
