Is the 32/5 profile region-dependent?

My Max Rate is listed as 44kbps, and I'd like to upgrade to the 24/3 Max Turbo service speed (currently brand new Max Plus 18/1.5 installed). I've been putting it off, but I got a discount offer for an internet upgrade and decided to try and get this done. The Max Turbo service isn't selectable in the MyATT upgrade option, so I did some digging around and found out that I had to have my line provisioned for the 32/5 profile rather than the 24/3 profile that it's currently at. Assuming that there's nothing much wrong with my line, the 44kbps Max Rate should have enough headroom for the 32/5 profile.

So I contacted AT&T through their DSL chat support app (available here on the right menu bar), and talked to Moris, who seemed nice. He claims that 32/5 isn't available in my zipcode (46208, Indianapolis, IN) due to local AT&T bandwidth constraints, but took an email address and attached it to my account so that they'll email me when it does become available.

Does this seem like a plausible answer? Should I be calling in? I realize that I need a tier 2 tech to actually do the provisioning, but I've wasted lots of time over the years talking to support people who can't help and appear to be incentivized to keep me from talking to the people who can. If Moris is likely to have been right then I'll just drop it and wait for an email (or more of those slightly creapy u-verse door-to-door sales guys to com through). If everyone should have 32/5 available---assuming that their line can support it---then I guess I should call and try and get to tier 2?

Thanks,
Luke

Do you have TV with U-Verse. Only reason I am asking is because there are 2 flavors of U-Verse. VDSL+2 which is fed from a VRAD and supplies all 3 services and the 24/3 internet if you can qualify for the 32/5 profile and ADSL+2 which is CO fed and cannot provide TV or the 24/3 internet package. Can only get 18/1.5 with Co fed ADSL+2.

OK, so called tech support, talked to James in Tier 2 support and v'oila I'm on the 32/5 profile. Upgraded my speeds to the 28Mbps max, and life is grand.

I also got some good information regarding the new 45Mbps profile coming soon!

Did you pretend you were a technician? Some woman at tier 2 said they won't move your profile around unless they have a technicians ID#...

Nope, the guy I got in Tier 2 was super cool and submitted the order. Within 20 minutes, UV Realtime showed my profile was changed...

Looking forward to the 45M profile as I hear they are changing codecs and quality of the TV will go up... we'll see!

Tier 2 will provision you to a higher tier if you qualify. You don't have to pretend your a tech. She lied.

The higher profile is for faster tier speeds, not better PQ. They will still use a 5.7mbps bitrate for HD.

No I know, I was talking about what they are doing when they roll out the 45M profile. I don't expect anything to change except my upstream doubled, and my downstream went up. I'm happy now.

Where then did you get your info of "changing codecs and the quality of TV will go up"?

I figured she did, the tech that was at my house didn't mention that there would be any BS like that, he said to just go for it and try. My line is just running at 1 meg over what I need to qualify for 32/5, have yet to see if my upload qualifies, but I'm somewhat certain the tech showed it syncing at 6 megs up...if that's even possible.
I posted in direct regarding the 32/5 and what my max upload is running at. will see what they say.

It's VDSL. I have TV and Internet.

Congratulations. I'll never qualify for 45 though without something fancy going on, just don't have that kind of headroom.

This doesn't really tell me if 32/5 profiles are limited regionally though. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and call. How did you get to tier 2... did they just transfer you there right away when you asked for a profile upgrade?

I would post your info in the Tier 2 direct forums. They are very helpful and knowledgeable. They will need your acct #.

Right now it's sitting at just a hair over 41 megs on the max rate. A tech was just out yesterday and got the line fixed for me, before it was in the low 30s. I hear that 40 megs is the minimum accepted for the 32/5 profile.

Did you post in the direct forums if they could provision you for 32/5 line profile? They will run a line test and if it tests ok they will bump it to 32/5.

I asked what my max upload was, and asked if they could tell me if my line qualifies.

I'm trying to adhere to their channel policy of trying to resolve issues before contacting them. I wanted to know if Max Plus is restricted regionally before bugging them.
