Is it going to be F2P or retail? Expected release day? All champions from original Dota? How is your experience on the beta so far?

Tehuno join:2005-01-18 Bartlesville, OK kudos:1 | im a pretty average LoL player, but i sucked horribly in Dota, despite playing the OP champs my buddies recommended(spirit breaker, skeleton king, lina).
Maybe its just the bot AI, but no matter what, i would get 100-0'd inside of 2 seconds, no matter how far i stood away from the action. The enemy bots would literally run through my team, eating damage, just to come gib me. it was infuriating.
I understand its a slower paced game, less forgiving on mistakes. But theres no way i should be going 1/17 against bots, not with ~800 LoL games under my belt.
Something just didnt feel right about the game. |

| reply to Jobbie It's supposedly going F2P. Sorry I don't have a source off hand but I have read it previously. Release day? No idea. Never played the original Dota but from what I've read and played, there's a mix of champs from the original along with similar remakes of champs from LoL and HoN.
So far I've got 65 hours in the beta and love it. It's a lot more challenging than LoL, and actually made LoL much easier to play. The graphics are good but not over powering to the point of needing a beastly machine. Gameplay is solid with few if any bugs for me at least. FUCKING VOICE CHAT! FINALLY. That is a huuuuge problem with LoL that I have, although I have my own Teamspeak 3 server obviously not all random pubs are able to talk to me. -- Core i7 920 @ 3.5ghz | OCZ Obsidian 6GB 1600mhz DDR3 RAM | EVGA X58 tri SLI-LE mobo | EVGA GTX 570 | Antec 750w PSU | OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD | WD Black 1TB HDD | Antec 1200 Case | G15 keyboard | G9x mouse | G35 Headset | Asus 23" LED-LCD |

Gordo74Premium join:2003-10-28 Monroeville, PA | reply to Jobbie DOTA2 is very true to the original and I love it. Yes, there will be all the champions from the original.
I got into beta last week and have played a handful of games. With how true it is to the WC3 DOTA, I will be shelling out the money for it.
As far as the F2P model, I'd prefer it to be a game to be bought and you own 100% of it. I do not like how LoL or HoN has gone to micro transactions. |

Is LoL garbage? They're clearly making money hand over fist and the micro transactions don't give you an advantage. -- A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. -MLK |

JobbieKeep It SimplePremium join:2010-08-24 Mexico | reply to Gordo74 Some of the good things i have read from the beta:
* Built in voice chat * Built in replay system and espectator mode * Improved match making * No penalty for team for leavers after some point * Automatic requeue after a champion select leave, since champion select is in game no pregame. -- "Do not follow where the path may lead. | I'd like to definitely check it out.
My favorite two champs were the Panda guy and the one berserker that had this ult that would do 7 attacks on random targets (or 7 attacks on 1 target if alone).
I'd play cheese and get 5x cleave items and do like 200% damage per swing to everyone in the area. Insta pentakill. -- A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. -MLK |

Is LoL garbage? They're clearly making money hand over fist and the micro transactions don't give you an advantage. I'll admit, I possibly mis-spoke about LoL, but the way they do it with HoN is that they make a select few heroes free and rotate them, but if you want access to all heroes, you have to pay for the hero. I'd rather just pay $30 and have access to all game modes, all heroes, all the time. I wouldn't mind if they made extra skins or the like cost extra, but the game itself should be whole. |

| HoN has had a fucked up business model from the start and they're only reacting to LoL. In my opinion, it's too late for them. They fucked up and now they're in recovery mode. They'll never gain the momentum that LoL has. HoN wanted you to pay full price for a product, like a standard game, then they dropped the price, then they went F2P. It's like an MMO who goes to a F2P model just to try and be relevant.
LoL, on the other hand, has a successful and well-implemented F2P model that allows you to pay for things to save you time, or for cosmetic purposes, but never give you a permanent advantage over your opponents if you never pay a dime.
F2P has to be done right in order to be successful. We'll see if DOTA2 learns how to do it right. -- A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. -MLK |

JobbieKeep It SimplePremium join:2010-08-24 Mexico | I liked how LoL had a retail box and currently a digital download that gives you like 20 champions a couple runes and skins forl ike 20 bucks. That is how i got started and it was a great model, i bet Dota will do the same thing.
Right now HoN is out of the picture and its all about Dota 2 and LoL for the serious MOBA scene. -- "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." |
