Re: DOTA 2 Beta Thread

Get on Steam and look for Dota 2, on the game page you will find a link for the beta survey. Fill that and you are good to go.

Been in beta for a little while. Get destroyed. I'm fucking terrible. Gorgeous game, plays just like the original DotA so for all intents and purposes it is DotA with a fresh coat of paint and just as shitty of a community as the original and HoN put together.

I feel that the MOBA community as a whole is not very friendly, i also believe there is no ranking in the beta so you get newbs and experienced players together. That does not help.

I've been playing it since I got the Steam Beta information here at DSLR.

The playability and competitiveness is great while the community can be both good and extremely bad

OP heroes are Ursa(level 6 can solo Roshan)Bloodseeker/Riki (they can get pretty out of control pretty early).

That invoker guy is pretty hard to use too 8P

Add me up in steam: Ogre

Personal favorite, Tidehunter. Especially when paired with Tiny. He'd throw me into the middle of an enemy team, I'd ult as soon as I hit the ground to stun everyone, rape ensued.

My son got a beta invite last night. When he fired it up for his first game, his teammates said in pregame chat "Do you suck? Just quit and uninstall right now if you suck." So much for the community. Bear in mind, this is a beta and the matches don't count for anything. For the record, he was #1 in kills on that match.

From what I saw, it's pretty much the same thing as LoL, with notable differences being the fact that bots talk to you in chat and that there is no recall button. You have to buy town portal spells or hoof it all the way back.

There's also voice chat, you can destroy trees with items/abilities, runes to pick up in the creek for boosts, Roshon (baron) which brings you back to life if you die, denying creeps, couriers to transfer items so you don't have to go back to base, shops to buy items scattered throughout the playing field, and the items/stats work a decent bit differently. Get in and try sometime, it's actually a lot different/more complex.

The community is full of complete assholes, many of them played the original for years now. I'm just glad I don't get stuck with retarded mexicans and brazilians like in LoL.

I'm not retarded bro!

Retards are like a common nation you know? Same happens in europe with russians and french and the like there are language barriers everywhere.

Don't hate.

LOL ok I said that wrong, I meant the ones who yell incoherently at everyone in spanish or portuguese, absolutely suck ass at the game and take no blame for the loss. That also goes for everyone btw...although it seems more often than not it's the mexicans, at least for me anyways. Language barrier doesn't help that

I totally see your point, I guess the spanish spoken haven't gotten their invites yet and Dota was not very famous in latin america. Voice chat is god send since you are finally able to comunicate in a better way, there will be trolls all the time and i really hope is good enough (see wow voice chat attempt)

Oh for sure, most people who use voice chat (so far at least) have been helpful and aren't idiots. The thing with Dota 2 is it also breaks up match making by region and continent, which you can change yourself so you get stuck with only people on the east coast US for example. It's really nice

"good luck"

Isn't Defense of the Ancients a map shipped with WC3? Or was it a mod made by a third party?

if so, I would think the DOTA name belongs to whoever authored the original mod.

It was technically a map, but it was more "modded" than most or all game mods for WC3. It shipped as a stand-alone map.

DOTA was made by Icefrog then Guinsoo and Pendragon took over after Icefrog left the project.

Icefrog was hired by Valve for Dota 2 while Guinsoo and Pendragon started LEague of Legends for Riot Games.

Was "Defense of the Ancients" shipped with WC3? Sounds like Blizzard owns the name.

No, it was an indy community project. You downloaded it separately. It was not a Blizzard project.
