| [Optimum Voice] voicemail file format discrepancy Has anyone else noticed that the copy of the voicemail file on OV's site is in .mp3, but if you get the email notifications, it's saved as .wav?
I'm sure this was all good last century, but who still has their Windows PDA's any more? Know how much trouble it is to find a droid app that can play the .wav? Been through 6 of them already from Market, and none of them recognize the file. It is really not worth the trouble to start playing with codecs.
Why can't the notification emails have .mp3 as well? The files would be generally smaller, saving OV storage space. |

·Vonage
| reply to momcat1 My voicemails from Vonage are .wav also. But they also give me a text transcription of the message in the email, so I don't have to listen. -- NOTHING justifies terrorism. We don't negotiate with terrorists. Those that support terrorists are terrorists. |

| reply to aannoonn Of course, that one is not free. No matter, the ones I tried won't play the file, either. |

voipguy join:2006-05-31 Forest Hills, NY | reply to momcat1 Yes, it is not free. WavPlayer costs $0.99. Is that outside your budget, or is it a matter of principle? (Or, do you hate spending money without knowing for sure if it will work first?)
Others I know do use WavPlayer to play OV voice mail files. |

Others I know do use WavPlayer to play OV voice mail files. More on principle. But after trying so many others that also don't work, the probability of it working drop considerably. |

| reply to momcat1 Google Voice voicemail is free. Turn off OV voicemail, follow the instructions for forwarding unanswered and busy and no network calls for OV..Set the forwarding number to your GV number.. Download the Google Voice app from the market, problem solved. No pesky launching of attachments, and you get transcription (that is sometimes humorous)
You can even use the same voice mailbox for both your home and cell if youd like. No, you do not need to use GV for anything but voicemail. |
