[SWTOR] Reverse Engineering

Ok so i get mostly how this works. Heres a site that explains it but for those that are experts on this issue help me with the math and some understanding.

»blackrabbit2999.blogspot.com/201···ide.html

So my main is a tank meaning i want redoubt. Lets take a pair of boots for instance. So i reengineer the same boots 5 times then ill learn one of the 3 tiers (redoubt, critical, overkill). If i get redoubt on the first 5 then great but from what it sounds like it could take til 15? So now i have redoubt and i want veracity. So it could take reengineering that 5 times or up to 25 times just to get it. So to get redoubt and veracity, technically i could take me 40 times reengineering something (worst case scenario) to get one piece of gear where i want it. Is this correct?

Also, what about gear that has lets say defense already on it. Would it just increase the defense?

Finally, using same numbers from above, if i wanted to reengineer the level 50 purples from my crafting skill, would i possibly have to do those 40 times as well just to get them where i want them?

It's all RNG. You could RE 3 greens and get the 3 blue recipies.... or you could RE 100 greens and get none if you were really unlucky. I'm not sure what the chances are.

Now.. if you are a tank, you RE the green you want until you get the Redoubt blue. Once you get it. (It may come first, or last, or whatever, but you don't need the other two patterns if you get this first), you RE the blue redoubt pattern, until you get the purple Veracity (pure tanking) pattern. You may get others along the way, but you don't need them, so you just keep going until you get the one you want.

Finally, once you have the purple pattern, you craft it and your done! (Or.. if your a masochist, you keep making the purple veracity pattern until you get a critical craft so the epic has an agument slot).

Not sure if it's different for the level 50 stuff, but my main's artifice RE'd 41 green might hilt 22's before learning the blue recipe, and I've RE'd 8 blues with no purple recipe. Same with color crystals, took me 38 red crit crystals to learn the blue quality recipe. Though with artifice you're already crafting a specific, crystal, hilt or enhancement so there's no randomness to what blue recipe you get, it's just the blue version of the green recipe.

Yeah... this is just for weapons and armor, implants, etc. I believe mods, enhancements, crystals and hilts don't have all those options.. just one.

i.e. a green 22 hilt turns to a blue 22 hilt then turns to a purple 22 hilt.

yeah ive went through at least 15 blue level 22 resolve hilts and still no purple pattern yet, frustrating.

So many credits wasted...

Not sure of the proc rate. RNG is RNG.

One thing to note also. Make sure when you are crafting any type armor, that you are using the appropriate companion that gets the increased Synthweaving +critical chance.

This chart helped me a lot when trying for certain implants.

Oh i know, i just usually have pretty terrible luck with RNG, so im not surprised i havent gotten the purple pattern yet.

It costs 2k credits to MAYBE get 2 blue crystals from TH, and it takes 4 crystals per hilt, so for 15 hilts, im looking at a minimum of 60k credits, not counting the rest of the mats to make them.

thats a ton of wasted credits just to get 1 pattern, and then i gotta do it again for at least 2 more patterns(2 enhancements i want)

Yep, this is the reason I have orange color crystals in my lightsabers, so many TH missions I have grade 6 yellow and orange gemstones coming out of my ears. Not sure if they RE to a purple pattern though. Anyone know or should I just start trying?

Yeah... I think only items you craft can be RE to get higher patterns. Drops and such can't.

Orange and yellow color crystls are crafted by artifice, in fact they start off as blue quality, so no green recipes to have to RE first. I was just wondering if anyone knew if these could be RE'ed to get a purple recipe. It might save a lot if you don't mind orange or yellow lightsabers instead of red, blue or green.

An alternative is to stop wasting money crafting and go PVP for a whole -- you'll end up with even more money and far better gear.

If you can craft it, it can be RE'd into blue/purple. Even recipes that start as blue can be RE'd to purple.

No doubt RE is expensive, I skipped at lot of it while leveling up since you replace gear so quickly. At level 50 though since credits are so easy to get I've gone back and RE'd alot and have a bunch of purple patterns.

I think i have Tehuno's luck. Last night i must have RE'd one of my redoubt pieces 14 times but never got the purple. It was a lower level item thank god and i had plenty of mats so i can try again tonight however assuming you can re every piece of gear, its kind of crazy just how long it takes. This process can def be very frustrating. I swear im only doing slicing and treasure hunting on my next alt.

I wonder if the fact EA actively promotes reverse engineering in their games will affect their future chances of winning DMCA cases

I had to do another 5 last night to get my purple resolve hilt 22, so 20 RE's total.
Now trying to get purple battle 22 enhancement, i pray it dosent take as long.
