1 edit | [ALL] 2Wire 2700HG-E / Firewall / Security / SIP ALG option What happens if this option is enabled?
What does it preclude not enabled?
I found a manual for a 2Wire 2701HG, which says ...... "The Advanced "Configure Services page (v5 firmware) allows you to enable the 2Wire gateway to operate in bridged mode, change the timeout settings for NAT, enable notification messages, enable the SIP ALG, and change the upstream maximum transmission rate."
My issue was that I installed an ATA device (OBi110) per the simple instructions, then my Telus 2700HG gateway moved the device into the DMZ mode with the consequence that DNS was rendered interoperable.
Being a neophyte in this subject area, I'm guessing that enabling SIP ALG might allow an VoIP device to function behind the firewall and hopefully not instigate a "router behind a router" error as I experienced.
I couldn't find any helpful DSLreports.
Advice please ......... |

The ip of the 2wire is the dns ip allocated to all dhcp clients . 1. But how ? ...... by enabling the SIP ALG option ? ...........I couldn't see any other choices that I recognized other than the DMZ choice which was performed by the 2Wire gateway anyway. . 2. Yes, but DNS was not functional for any DHCP client when the 2Wire moved the identified "router" upon activation into the DMZ. |

Here's a picture of the page with the router behind router option

Notwithstanding, playing about one more time before I RMA'd the OBi110 ATA device, I thought that I would try it again with the 2Wire 2700HG-E gateway SIP ALG option enabled, and finally, the OBi110 device worked.
But again, the gateway again flagged the "Router Behind Router Detected" page, which this time I chose the "Disable" option rather than the "Resolve" option, which doing so then did not bump the OBi110 ATA device into the DMZ section.
Otherwise, everything now worked as it should, but I had to enter the gateway IP address into my computer's DNS settings, as some browser pages couldn't find the gateway, which wasn't an issue before the addition of the OBi110.
The one remaining problem that I have with the OBi110 is the insufficient REN (ring) voltage, which I maybe able to overcome by connecting the 'phone' jack to my currently dead second line phone circuit rather than to just a single phone set. |

When it was allocated by the gateway into the DMZ, it used my ISP address |
