Cambridge Crude, Liquid Electricity

Here's something we don't hear a lot about, Liquid Electricity. They say you can refuel a vehicle as fast as you can currently pump gasoline and the liquid is fully recyclable. A functional prototype will be ready next year.

quote:
The future automobile will run on electricity not gasoline! This could quickly happen if you could pull up with your EV to a "gas" pump to recharge your car with a liquid electric fuel.
Cambridge Crude, the nickname of a new Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) liquid battery recharging system will let you do just that. This new liquid charge goes in as the old one goes out for re-charging by the fueling station; to be used over and over again.

Now we will wait and see if Big Oil will attempt to shut them down.

Based on the description, this appears to be some type of Li-ion fuel cell (or 'flow battery') where the electrolyte contains the lithium. This appears to be a somewhat novel concept with little or no directly comparable technology, so it's kinda hard to judge it.

But I think a couple of things are sure:
a) it will probably require quite a bit of engineering to make it ready for primetime
b) if they want a prototype car, they can now just buy something off the lot (like the Nissan Leaf) and replace the batteries
