Skyrim Workshop And Hi-Res Texture Pack Released

»store.steampowered.com/app/72850/
»store.steampowered.com/app/202485/

"Now you can easily discover, rate, and download Skyrim mods directly through Steam. The Steam Workshop makes it easy to browse the most popular, newest or highest-rated mods of all time, as well as searching for specific content via tags such as “Armor”, “Quests”, “Dungeons”, and more. You can even see what your friends have added to their favorites. Once you’ve found something awesome, click the “Subscribe” button. The next time you play Skyrim, the launcher will automatically install the latest version of any subscribed mods and configure Skyrim to run them.

Mod-makers also enjoy a streamlined process for uploading mods directly to Steam. The difficult part, of course, is creating your mod. To get started modding, install the Creation Kit – free through Steam to all Skyrim owners – from the Tools section of your Steam Library. The Creation Kit is a powerful and sometimes daunting tool, but the community wiki at www.CreationKit.com is a resource for modders of all skill levels, even the total beginner."

About time.

I've let Skyrim set a couple weeks now having been hitting BF3 pretty hard, but this is going to make me load it back up so I can check this out.

If you want mods DO NOT use the Steam method to get them for the PC. Go to Skyrim Nexus instead. This is just a way to limit mods and eventually forcing more control via Steam which will end up being less mods available in the long run.

EDIT: "The launche will AUTOMATICALLY install the latest version of the mod". This is another major reason NOT to go the Steam route. The best mods allow you to run previous versions or to "mod the mod" so to speak. Steam takes this away from you.

I'm going to try it out and give them the benefit of the doubt for now instead of conspiracy theory.

We'll see.

Couldn't even play the game last night. I assume it was because of the number of people trying to download this new 3GB texture pack. That's more BS than Steam Workshop. Why in the hell can't I play my single player game?

Because you didn't set it up to be played offline.

And there is no conspiracy theory. They will update your mods automatically even if you don't want that to happen. When Skyrim came out with the first patch there was a MAJOR bug in it that caused dragons to fly backwards and into mountains.

Those connected to Steam had the patch installed if you wanted it or not. I stayed offline and was able to play the game just fine till a third patch came out 3 weeks later that finally fixed the dragon bugs.

So these are facts and not some type of conspiracy theory.

So how does official patches translate into how the mods will work? Two completely different things here. I'm sorry but all you are saying is nothing more then conspiracy theories.

Maybe you should read their posts then.

Everytime you are online and click to play Skyrim the launcher will install and update all subscribed mods to the latest version.

It is pretty much like the Curse client for WoW, i only hope you get to manage and select what do you want to update or not.

Honestly, I wasn't trying to get into it with you Mongo because I really just don't know yet. Trust me, I've got my fingers crossed that this set-up with Skyrim Workshop will be the best thing since sliced bread.

I was just saying I am willing to give it a shot and see how it turns out.

I dl'ed the HRTP two nights ago and played with it last night. You can't tell exactly how much better it is without comparing side by side but I did notice streets, people, etc looking more detailed.

This is not true. If you set your game to not be automatically updated, the game will not be patched. You can then choose if you want to allow a patch to be installed.

Taino, that is very good to see. My comment was based on what Steam said in their forums that the mods were going to be automatically updated to the newest version. So Steam gave out inaccurate information.

That's like claiming what a tier I tech tells you on the phone is the ISP's official policy. Low-level employees are sometimes incorrect in an assumption, and it's usually people looking for a loophole to latch onto the "gotcha" moment and go "ah hah, you lied!"

Forum mods are probably different from the experts who design Steam--their time is spent moderating all the trolls, not learning all the in's and out's of the platform.

I'm sure they'll pull the same card you did and say their comments were based on whatever policy paper was pushed to them, or what they heard from their supervisor, or a senior mod, etc.

Given that the Automatic updates toggle has been out for quite a long time, I wouldn't keep pointing fingers on this one.

But just like a Blue post in a WOW forum it is the usually the only information that is available at the time. If GC from Blizzard said something about a WOW class mechanic you have to treat it as solid information, till shown otherwise. Same thing here.

Big deal, someone was wrong on the internet. It's not a conspiracy.
