 | high latency on ip.att.net hop outside network my isp is not at&t. either they're the outside provider or the path happens to pass through at&t's servers, i don't know
for the past 30 days or so, i've been getting high latency between 6 and 11 pm on the 5th hop of my network. the path is as follows-
1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1 2 29 ms 14 ms 10 ms ip-74-85.206.badaxe1.speednetllc.com [74.85.206. 1] 3 20 ms 16 ms 15 ms saginaw.core2.arris-sag2.speednetllc.com [64.119 .58.45] 4 10 ms 38 ms 8 ms 64.119.60.73 5 24 ms 29 ms 57 ms 12.248.95.45 (problem exists between these two hops) 6 94 ms 97 ms 109 ms cr81.dtrmi.ip.att.net [12.122.102.42]
any time before or after 6-11 pm this hop is at 25-30ms. so any traffic of mine that exits michigan gets 80ms added to it
basically i want to know if anyone has experience with reporting problems like these, and if so who did they report the problem to?
i doubt calling my isp would help, i also doubt i would get a straight answer from a front-line at&t rep since i'm not a customer of theirs
thank you |

| Latency changes based on distance, and loads of the routers. It's generally only a problem if you're seeing packet loss from this point.
Calling your isp would do nothing, and yes calling some random att rep would do nothing.
If you really want to, run a line quality test from this site, but you need to understand the many backbones, and paths available doesn't mean you will always get the most optimal path. It's unrealistic to expect to have low latency for every server you're trying to connect with. -- I distrust those people who know so well what god wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires- Susan B. | i understand temporary problems with pathing. this isn't a temporary pathing problem since it's the same node in detroit my connection has passed through for years
the position of this problem means any traffic of mine that leaves michigan (ie every website i visit and every server i play a game on) is getting a ton of extra latency added to it from 6 to 11 pm on a daily basis
if you think a line quality test would help i will do that, but i don't know that it would give any information that would be helpful to this problem |

 | Why not post a full tracert or pingplotter s we can really see what going on? |
|
|
|
 | i didn't post a full tracert or pingplotter file (besides the image graph in the original post) because i feel that's all the information a reader would need to understand the problem
attached a pingplotter file from the last couple days.
times where the problem exists in the graph uploaded: 2/6 7:15 pm-10:00pm 2/7 6:15 pm-10:00pm hop 6 - cr81.dtrmi.ip.att.net

Theoretically they could report it to their upstream providers but probably won't based on previous experience. ATT won't listen to you either... Which ATT would you call anyway ?? |
|
 | i had a feeling that was the case. thank you for posting |

| Again can you post the hops after.. showing they rise in latency aswell.. because alot people come here complaing of somthing simmiler and it turns our its just a single router putting icmp packets that are directed at itself on the back burner and not really an issue. -- ASUS M4A79T Deluxe | AMD Phenom II x3 720 BE AM3 w/4 Cores @ 3.41Ghz(OC) | 4Gb DDR3 Memory @ 1600mhz | Sapphire ATI HD4870 1GB 800mhz/1000mhz(OC) | 2x500GB HDD's Raid 0 | Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Build 7600 (RTM) | Windstream DSL 12m (14.9m Sync)/766k |

You can bet your last red cent that they have staff who continuously watch for network congestion.
In the ISP world, 120ms is nothing to get concerned about. |

here are some results from 'winmtr' so you can see the full route |

The other point to remember is this issue is likely affecting their "direct" customers so they definitely have motivation to fix it. When that happens, everyone outside will be taken care of automatically. |
