 | Overpriced gutter solutions? Pine needles and clogged gutters have been problems. No facia or drip edge were installed in house. Gutters are pulling away from the house with nails in every other rafter and some popping out. Some rust spots showing and lack of drip edge is concerning. However have planned to have new roof installed. 104ft with one straight run in the back at 40 ft and 60ft in the front with 3 outside corner and 1 inside corner and 4 3x4 drains with cleanouts built in. We got a quote for Leafguard and GutterMaxx for 4000 & 4500 respectively. Although the guttermax included installing a new drip edge so roofer didnt have to and a facia board which the gutters would be screwed into.
It seems like a bit much for such a small run on a one level ranch style home.
Comments? Just try the fine mesh and see how they work for a season? |

| reply to kieranmullen The thing I've noticed about the overpriced gutter systems is that they can't handle a heavy rain. And, small leaves and needles actually just follow the water into the gutter!
Keep in mind, you could hire a gutter cleaning crew about 80 times for $4000.00. -- ...because I care. |

In the 15 or so properties I owned in Mass decades ago, not one had gutters and the basements were fine in all of them
I guess if you have cracked or failing foundation you might keep some of the water directed away from the foundation, buts its definitely not a must have and the problems are many with having them |

CylonRedPremium,MVM join:2000-07-06 Bloom County 1 edit | I had more issues with under sized gutters, that no gutters would only cause 1K times more issues... I will take the gutters, Leaf Guard, tree seeds and leaves over large amounts water in our crawl space and the associated issues in the summer (humidity and possible mold\rot). Gutters that are properly sized and hung correctly - no issues even with inches and inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain.
As my brother also found out - a house just does not look finished without gutters... -- Brian

 | reply to CylonRed Did you get leafguard? guttermaxx looks like a better product but $2200 for a 40ft run seems a bit nuts. Here are my quotes

 | If I needed new gutters (which I dont believe it do) it would cost $700 |

CylonRedPremium,MVM join:2000-07-06 Bloom County | reply to kieranmullen I think we got Leaf Guard but I would have to check our paper work. We had seamless gutters and they actually fixed a bit of soffet damage as well at one end of the roof - they should have charged us extra but they didn't. -- Brian

 | Guttermax looks like a sturdier product. The lefgaurd was almost $5k with $500 cash card back from costco but did not install a drop edge or the fascia. -- Make your voip number accessible to sipbroker.com and free worldwide call in numbers |

JtmoPremium join:2001-05-20 Novato, CA | reply to kieranmullen $10/lf installed 7" steel gutters. $1/lf for plastic diamond screens. Plus painting costs.
So, $40/lf should come with lubricant for Valentines Day. |

 | Looking at the quote would any other the included services be worth it? |

So people don't mind the valley or worn hard surfaces created by the waterfall coming off the roof ? Or the puddles?
If it wasn't for my gutters I would have a small lake on two sides of my house after any significant rain storm, and after a few years valleys and worn concrete on the other two sides. |

Mastershield (it's a durable mesh screen cover guard for your gutters with a lifetime warranty) was $15 per linear foot out the door. I did one 40ft. section and it ended up being about $540 after a couple of discounts. If I had the money at the time, I would have done the whole house... and down the road I might. |
