A LurkerPremium join:2007-10-27 Burlington, ON | Netflix issues Anyone having Netflix issues tonight?
I was watching something today before work and I'm getting an 'unable to connect to Netflix' error. The WDTV box definitely has internet access (checked YouTube and Flickr), but no Netflix.
Oddly enough I was going to post (as I was logging in) how much I'm enjoying it. Well, except that after a friend's kid was on it over the weekend... it now seems to think I'm an 11-yr old girl when giving me suggestions. |

A LurkerPremium join:2007-10-27 Burlington, ON | Okay, after 10 minutes of telling me it couldn't connect now it can. I'd rebooted the WDTV first time (which didn't help). I just kept hitting try again until it connected. I've been using it since early Dec. I think and I've never seen that before. |

I had to "exit" the Netflix application on my TV and restart it and it then got connected. |

I have to say that I've enjoyed my membership so far. Although I've watched more TV than movies. |

 | reply to A Lurker Been watching tv shows on it tonight and haven't experienced any issues. Been using my subscription a LOT more lately ever since I learnt about Unblock-us. Over that time (last few weeks) haven't any issues whatsoever. |

I looked into unblock-us but saw a comment that you needed to have purchased yours in the US as the Canadian models were possibly missing a chip (ie. they couldn't do anything about it). |

| It's possible the issue is more a North American model issue, not a US model issue. Logistically, it's unlikely there's a US and a Canadian model difference... at least in the many models prior to recently.
From what I hear from friends, all you have to do is sign up with Netflix on their American site, changing your DNS server. Not sure how accurate that is... but I'll confirm. |

| Damned !!!!
Got hooked on "Mad Men". Got to Season 2 eposode 11 only to find the feed is devoid of sound !!! Rebooted the TV etc. I can get sound on epiode 10 and 12, but not 11. Arghhhh !
Called Netflix to report it. They sent me an email telling me to replace my HDMI cables and reverse them to see if it makes a difference. There is no HDMI involved as it is the TV itself that play netflix and feeds the stereo audio via TOSlink
Looks like I may have to get that episode from an alternative source not approved by Hollywood. |

Not sure how accurate that is... but I'll confirm. Interesting. At the moment I'm actually watching a Canadian Show (Being Erica), which was picked for me by Netflix - good choice. My personal top 10 tonight shows:
Jeremiah (would definitely watch) 90210 (not sure why - maybe watching the Being Erica?) Firefly (would definitely watch) Luther (not sure - might try) Monk (not sure - might try) Princess & the Pony (no way, this is from friend's kid) Life on Mars (I've seen the UK one, this is the US one) Running Wilde (seen it, no thanks) The Electric Company (no way, this is from friend's kid) Lie to Me (would definitely watch)
Then it's got categories (Action Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Dark Sci-Fi & Fantasy, a couple of 'like' other stuff I've watched) and then into the usual lists. I actually kind of like that feature even thought it's very big brother-like.
I might try the US route if only to see what the differences are. At the moment I'm not watching it that much, but I kind of like the freedom. (Although to be fair I likely have copies of most of the ones I might watch above anyway.) It is, however, a very good option and nice to have a legal option for viewing what I want, when I want. |

I changed it back though as I'm watching a Canadian series that doesn't show up on the US list. |

I just did a test, used the Level 3 DNS server I always use, then switched to 3webs DNS server (all through NSLOOKUP) and the results are the same. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake....... |

Which US DNS server worked for you? I tried one, didn't work... |

I'll likely look for and use another if I decide to do long term. |

| Most interesting.
MAD Men, Season 2 episode 11 has no sound when played on the Sharp TV. But When played on my Sony VCR, that same episode works fine.
Maybe they have a different sound codec for that episode and the sharp TV doesn't support it. |
