16MB install experience

Had my upgrade from 6Mbit to 16Mbit scheduled today. I was told 2 techs were supposed to show up between noon and 9pm. To my surprise at 7AM my new service was already activated without anyone showing up. Not sure if anyone will eventually show up, but everything seems to be working. So to be charged 95$ for a profile change is disappointing. But over all I am happy.

Here are my line stats. Should I be synching at higher speeds ?

You should get a higher downstream sync. My 10 mbit line is synced at 12 mbits. People who use the 12 mbit in Ontario get 14 mbit sync profiles.

You won't get a higher upstream profile due to the buggy remote (IKNS), so that's as good as it gets.

when I got my upgrade back few months ago, same situation as you, when I woke up, the speed changed already. The tech came in the afternoon just replace the phone jack where the modem is and left which I don't think it is necessary. Probably is a reason bell needs to charge some fee and pretend they did some work in front of you.

I might be wrong, LOL.

This is what kills me, somebody "pushed a button" and volia you have higher speed.

Oh and that will be $100 bucks for the install please.

Whoa a 9hr window, do they think I have nothing else to do ?

If you already have a potts splitter installed no one will ever show up.

creatine...

Do you already have a "POTS Splitter" installed (which also includes a filter, btw), or are you still using micro-filters on your phones, or have you rigged your own central splitter/filter (made your own POTS splitter)?

A POTS Splitter may not be "necessary" for your line to "work", but it should be installed; it may well improve your line quality and stability.

And it's part of what you pay $95 for!

I do not have a POTS splitter installed. I simply have a filter on the 3 phones in my home

My Dmarc is actually is on the exterior of my home (back yard) and dates back to the 70s. It has never been upgraded.

But he only has 14dB SNRM. Bumping that to 18Mbps or so would bring him down to ~11dB which may start becoming somewhat of a concern.

SNRM of 11 should be fine.

Considering that the minimum is 6, and that all ADSL2+ lines are at least lightly interleaved, yeah, 11 would seem to be OK...

The tech finally showed up. He plugged a "device" into the telephone jack my modem was connected to. Checked the line stats, said all was good and left. Whole process took less than 10 min. I guess finding out your line occupancy is at 79% is worth 95$ :\

Did you ask him to up your profile?

I did, and was told my synch was "normal" I'm guessing I was his last call for the day and he wanted to go home. I place a request in the direct forum asking for it to be upgraded.

Teksavvy just responded to my request in the direct forum. They stated that Bell would deny my since they will not push profiles past their maximums

I called in for a similar upgrade and TS told the my new profile would be active on Feb8 also I needed to be home for the whole day for when the technician comes. Come noon on feb8 no technician showed up so I called TS and they said it was rescheduled on Feb10 and my new profile would be activated the same day.

thanks TS for not notifying me and making take a day off for nothing.

Hmmm... The 2nd tech didnt show for me at all but everything is working fine.

If the demarc is outside do they install the pot splitter there?

My demarc is outside as well (old looking thing with metal screws and a cover). Nothing was installed on my end either.

They install the pots splitter inside where the Bell wire enters the house.
