 | [HELP] CISCO 1811 I work for a large national telecom provider. I've got a customer who doesn't want to pay the monthly fee for his E10 connection, but wants me to find a router that he can use.
Normally, we supply a Cisco 1811 router for internet access, which we recommend. Of course, the customer wants suggestions for a router with equivalent specs and capabilities, but not the one we are recommending.
Any suggestions?
Oh yeah, it also has to come from Memory Express. |

 | Memory Express doesn't carry Cisco Cisco gear, so if he's after Linksys Cisco, tell him to hit up smallnetbuilder.net for what options he can look at.
I'm guessing this is a symmetrical 10Mbps ethernet connection? This coming in as a straight RJ-45 cable?
Don't know why this customer'd turn down an 1811, I have several myself, one as my internet edge router and absolutely love the piece of kit!

Yo're right, it is coming from from an RJ-45 - he'll be able to upgrade to a symmetrical 10, but right now he's just doing 5Mbps.
He'll need a router that will be able to handle a full 10M though as I have the feeling he is going to need to up the bandwidth down the road. |

| reply to HELLFIRE It's likely he dosen't know how to manage an 1811. If he's just being a cheapass it'll bite him sooner or later.
Almost any consumer router will handle a symmetric 10M connection, depending on the number of simultaneous connections. If he wants to get fancy he can look at prosumer devices like Netgears UTM series. |
