 | [CATV] [Lehigh Valley] EAS Testing I just experienced the 3rd "weekly" EAS test in the past 24 or so hours. The last two were both within the last 2 hours. I feel like these tests have become much more frequent over the past weeks and months and much more noticeable. Has something changed to require more testing of the system? Is there possibly something wrong with the system that is causing it to fire more often (twice in one morning seems a bit overkill..)? Is this something on RCN's end pushing the test through more often? or is the region? or statewide?
The fact that these tests continually awaken my napping baby may be why this minor inconvenience is big enough for me to seek help.
While I doubt this is something RCN is doing on purpose, I was hoping someone here might know who controls this or could do something about it. |

Do understand the frustration ....just be thankful there was no real emergency |

 | required 3 times in a 24 hour period? required twice in a two hour (10am-12pm) today?
actually read that whole wiki yesterday when I thought "man, the frequency of these tests is becoming quite often...". But 2 nearly back-to-back tests this morning alone? seems a bit much, no? |

1 edit | Personally..excessive.. yes, perhaps.
Though threads have periodically come up in all the provider forums here when frequency has increased for a period of time, or just sporadically..and it's always the same answer Even a forum search here shows it discussed before
It's really not an RCN issue, usually - and is controlled elsewhere, given authority by:
•Regular and frequent testing of EAS is essential to identify mitigation strategies for a more resilient and effective system. Of course, you could go to the other side of the camp & explore the possibility it's just another development in mass mind control

 | didn't realize complaints about "weekly" tests was a common topic here. Wasn't sure if something at RCN was mistakenly pushing these out (no one with service electric I've asked has noticed these alerts...) and one of the RCN folks on here would want to look into it. Or perhaps the state is sending something out in error and the RCN folks on here might be able to isolate it and fix it. Or if we changed the definition of "weekly test" and I missed it.
If it's intentional and the state is doing it, I'll be happy to redirect my complaints where ever they belong (and would appreciate anyone pointing me in the right direction). But if these tests are going off accidentally, I just thought it would be helpful to bring attention to it and see if others are also getting these excessive alerts so that any potential problems (on RCN or the State's end...) can be fixed quickly.
didn't mean to clog up the board, and sorry I didn't search around much first. |

1 edit | No problem posting at all..just referencing the above, so you better understand the responses
If you'd like to see other posts on site or a forum covering it, try using:
"EAS" and "frequent" or "excessive" in the search field (2009-present and even older, "all time")
Maybe there were updated amber alerts or such, particular to your area?

rcnmanJason NealisPremium,VIP join:2003-05-02 Herndon, VA kudos:10 | Hi, full disclosure here. We have been doing this in order to isolate a area of concern with out EAS system. We unfortunately can't isolate just a part of the network when testing as we have to send the signal thru the entire system. We believe we have isolated the issue and will test one more time tomorrow. Then we will be back to regular EAS tests.
I'm am very sorry for the inconvienance but I'll feel much better once this issue is resolved. -- Jason Nealis, Sr. Director, Video Product and Video Operations |

 | thanks for the reply rcnman. I feel better knowing that I'm not going crazy, and will keep the tv off today during nap time and stick to the radio
I also want the system to work correctly, which is why I spoke up. If there was something going wrong with the system, or the old coffee-cup-on-the-button schtick, I would rather someone look into it. Knowing that it's intentional (and will hopefully conclude soon...), inconvenient as it was, makes me feel better. |

 | reply to DMariner Was actually going to post about this. I keep hearing my DVRs clicking off an on in the morning, and of course interrupting recordings. (and waking me up) UGH!
Also, the DCX3400 boxes seem to get stuck on the EAS and you need to power cycle them before the recordings will fire back up.
Another annoyance this is causing. -- CHECK YOUR FSLC TAXES!!! |
