| [Rant] After all these years, IE is still a clunker Running IE9, on an i5 machine right now, and it is still a clunky experience.
Sadly, I must use it for certain things that just don't work correctly in other browsers (specifically - Sharepoint, which could be another rant...). Personally, I use Firefox most times because I like some of the add-ons, and I'm not yet totally sold on Chrome.
Why must it take so long to spawn a tab? Why must it choke and puke on itself randomly after having 2+ tabs and respond as though I'm asking it to copy a gigabyte of data, or solve PI to a billion digits? ...It's. A. F*cking. Browser...
Even on my quad-core at home, with more RAM, it's still not as smooth as one would expect. More than a few tabs, and you'd think the whole thing might fly apart at the seams, exploding on your screen like a zombie that got shot in the head.
And what's with having TWO "iexplore.exe" processes for *ONE TAB*??? Does it need the other one to watch out for itself, just in case it starts acting schizo? Open a few extra tabs, and it's like "Malkovich Malkovich" / "Microsoft Microsoft" - it starts peering inside its own mind and freaks out.
It's also total bullshit that IE can not be fully/easily uninstalled (At least the Europeans got a small win on that front).
After all these years, IE still sucks. /end rant. |

| reply to amungus Not to mention I don't like the interface. I remember the days before IE, when the web was just an experiment and thinking that it would revolutionize life. But for sure, MS could do a much better job. I think us being stuck with x86 is another issue too. -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery. | reply to amungus After using firefox for some time, I have come to the opinion the biggest problem with IE is MS tries to make one browser be everything for everybody. A sleek browser with options of add-ons makes more sense which is probably why firefox does so well. Hopefully that will continue. |

CylonRedPremium,MVM join:2000-07-06 Bloom County | reply to amungus I use IE9 since we develop a IIS system and it is not all that bad. My 2+ year old laptop spawns a IE 9 tab in less than 1 second - maybe fractionally slower than FF. I always have a minimum of 6 tabs open at any time and commonly have 8-9 open all day.
CRM causes issues with losing connection but IE p is decent - for MS at least. -- Brian

I'm still quite leery of using IE as it can leak cookies to the sites they were not sent from, and this has not been fixed in multiple versions. »www.grc.com/cookies/cookies.htm
Other browsers including Firefox do not have this problem.

Yes! |

 | reply to amungus Have to agree. I fought using FFx for years, but IE9 finally pushed me over the edge. Add to its speed the supreme AdBlocker plug-in, and it's a no-brainer to me... |
