Speedtests indicate speeds from 4mbs to 32 mbps.

I have had roadrunner service for about 3 weeks...I have been testing my download speeds on speedtest.net I am getting speeds from 4 to 32 mbps. Is this normal..When I reboot my router (linksys wrt160n) I get the faster speeds. Typically within 3 days time my download speed has degraded to around 4mbps.

What could be be causing this degrading speeds? So far, powering off the router and restarting has fixed this. Need a better fix other than restarting router ever 3 days

Btw time warner installed a ubee modem.

If the router reboot solves it, the problem is probably in the router. Do you have the latest firmware?

If you're torrenting, some routers need adjustments to reduce the length of time they track connections for. Too many broken connections can clog router memory.

Another possibility is that you have some sort of wired/wireless client that's using data and slowing your access down.

You should think about loading your router with DD-WRT firmware. That's what I did with my WRT310n and its running like champ now compred to how it was with stock firmware.

It's not so bad. I was a little scared to do it at first too but as long as you follow instructions exactly it's pretty straight forward. You may want to do a little reading up on it first though if you decide to go that route.

In that case, definitely check for firmware updates.

You may want to check that your wifi encryption is set with WPA to ensure nobody is freeloading off you. Also check that your computers are clean from malware.

I also agree with the suggestion of going with DD-WRT. It's pretty easy to use once installed.
