ARPremium,ExMod 2001-04 join:2000-09-21 Toronto, ON | Can Canadians buy Vanguard funds? Rather than "Canadians", let me say: "Canadians" and "Canadian residents" (temporary or permanent but legal residents either way). |

ARPremium,ExMod 2001-04 join:2000-09-21 Toronto, ON | I was under the impression that the funds in my pension plan thru work would be north of 2% MER. But they are around 0.62% and me likey! |
|
snafuIs it Friday yet ?Premium join:2004-02-16 Mississauga | thats a really good rate. I don't own any funds near that low of a MER |
|
ARPremium,ExMod 2001-04 join:2000-09-21 Toronto, ON | Might be because the employer pays for the fees on their end? Or because Standard Life has a pool of around 30,000 people who're contributing to the pension plan and buying their products so it's a "corporate discount" kinda thing? |

They could be passively managed funds as well. ie) Index Funds |

ARPremium,ExMod 2001-04 join:2000-09-21 Toronto, ON | It's a group plan deal I'd suppose. And could be passive as well like you said! |

snafuIs it Friday yet ?Premium join:2004-02-16 Mississauga | reply to AR i believe most US based funds have lower MER compared to Canadian. we are getting hosed by the "advisers" |

ARPremium,ExMod 2001-04 join:2000-09-21 Toronto, ON | Well....the "advisers" need to eat too, right?
It is the cost of living in Canada.
I could buy my car myself in the US to save $7000 but I don't have the time or skills to manage my own investments. If I could, I would. |

 | reply to AR a good advisor costs money. Depending on what you are looking for in Toronto I know of a couple of good wealth advisor |

ARPremium,ExMod 2001-04 join:2000-09-21 Toronto, ON | reply to snafu As always, every day I learn something new about Canada.
"Advisers" here are funds salesmen.
I saw them as someone who manage my account towards making it grow.
But if they have charged me a DSC fee, I'm stuck with the funds for 6-7 years.
How are they any different than any other company that locks in a customer for a period of time and charges early termination fees?
What do these "Advisers" do for us? |
