mikes60My ParadisePremium join:2001-07-31 Boynton Beach, FL | [Bill] Comcast "Service Charge" I called Comcast last night and asked how much it would cost to add a third HD box to my account. After checking my account, the told me it would be $9.75 per month. No problem, I told them I would drive to the office tomorrow and pick up a box.
Drove to the office, waited in line, and quickly had a new box in my hand.
Then, the clerk told me I had to pay a $10.00 "service charge" to add a new box. Without that $10.00 payment, I couldn't have the box. She claimed this started in January.
Amazing, I add a service, pick up and install the box myself, and still have a $10.00 "service charge". I paid the charge as I had already driven to the office and wanted thr service. I will now call them and see if i can get a credit.
This is in Boca Raton, FL. Anyone else been charged for this? -- --"No good deed goes unpunished" --"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" (Albert Einstein)

 | Same crap in Chicago area. Added a box that I picked up about a year and they charged me as well. Even after spending 15 minutes on the phone with some overseas rep to get the box activated. -- Yesh |

This is in Boca Raton, FL. Anyone else been charged for this? I see an item on their rate sheet dated 1/12, "Self Install Kit - $10." I never thought it would apply to picking up an additional STB. They are out for every penny they can get. I wouldn't be surprised if the next thing they do is install parking meters in their welcome center customer parking lots. |

They first claimed that "they should have advised me about the $10.00 charge when I originally called", which rhe absolutely didn't.
Reminds me of the ATM charges that Bank of America was going to add, until there was such an uproar that they cancelled their plan.
Unfortunately, Comcast doesn't get as much press coverage.
I'm going to keep my eyes open for the parking meters. -- --"No good deed goes unpunished" --"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" (Albert Einstein)

 | So, you want unlimited changes to your account for free? What is the difference picking up the box and installing it yourself? somebody has to spend the time putting the box on your account and change your billing.
so lets say I want to watch HBO on Fridays and Showtime on Saturdays. Should Comcast be able to charge you to switch back and forth every weekend?
So what is stopping you from going down to the cable store on Friday picking up a box for the weekend because you have guests coming into town then take it back on Monday and get charged 35 cents for the three day rental? Then you do the same thing a week later. This is an extreme case but I hope you see my point.
There is a cost of changing your account. $10 isn't a lot. |

There is a cost of changing your account. $10 isn't a lot. That's their cost of doing business. If they want to charge a fee if I return a box within x numbers of months that's fine.
But an extra fee for adding more service, when I'm paying for the box anyway- I don't think so.
I already pay them a total of $147.00 per month for all my services, that's enough. -- --"No good deed goes unpunished" --"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" (Albert Einstein)

Ebolla join:2005-09-28 Dracut, MA | a CoS fee is normally $1.99, they may have added it as a self install kit which should only be for someone setting up new services on own without a tech going out. Maybe the rules down in FL are a bit different but I know in the NE-region it is only a $1.99 if the customer has active services. |

They claim it is new in Florida since January. I know I never had this charge when adding a box before.
But they have already refunded it. -- --"No good deed goes unpunished" --"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" (Albert Einstein)

That was going to be for using a debit card to make purchases, which is pretty stupid when credit cards could get you up to 5% back. I wish they had gone ahead and charged for the extra overhead instead of having smart customers continue to subsidize other customers' debit card use. |
