Most of the time I can get higher speeds on a local server, but the ping times are lower on the Chicago servers. Higher ping times can be an indication of a loaded system or could indicate a longer more complex routing path.

Real World Latency Speed Test

Click for full size
Since most webpages average 1mb in size, I wanted a way to benchmark real world page loads rather than for total capacity. Capacity is important, more so on larger transfers.

Found FireBug very informative for a real world latency speed test.

Turned off: no script, flash block, and ad block plus.
Cleared cache. Restarted browser. Nothing else running in back ground, single computer.

WiMAX CINR: 20 dB

Real World: speedtest.net = 1,001.8KB @ 7.02s (onload: 3.53s)
Sustained Capacity: 1,800kbps
Latency: 50-100ms
Plan: $35 1.5mbps

Just hooked up with Clear this week for an extended (several months) trip to Florida. Unfortunately I'm short of options for "broadband" service, with my options being Clear or the severely overloaded hotel wifi connection.

What really surprised me was that this new account, for which I pay $50 a month, include NO email account. NONE

Guess I won't be seeing the below speed downloads til I return home at the end of summer/fall. (Literally 100 times faster than clear)

Vix, Your signal strength is a little low, to see the best speeds you need to have a CINR of 15 or better. Can you position your modem to a better place in the room, by a window?

I am a fan of Clearwire. My speeds are normally great, I dont have any reasonably priced alternative, and for the most part, I have been very happy with their service. However, I have been dealing with speeds such as this posting for almost a week now. On the plus side. I have finally talked to a locally based engineer who has been able to let me know what the issue is. We had a major storm roll through last week, (Took down trees on my property and a barn 1/4 mile away). My speed issues started immediately after that and the storm apparently affected the tower used as the base for the collection of the microwave relay signals for towers in my area. The engineer stated the issue should be resolved this weekend or early next week (however, we are expecting 60+ mph winds again this weekend so I expect it will not be untill next week).

My point is, that I took the time to suffer through the trouble shooting scripts the clear tech support use without getting pissed at them, and eventually things were escalated to a local resource. It was painfull, no doubt, but nescessary to proove that this was not an issue with tower loading or distance. It was tough to get them to accept that though I am 4 miles from the tower, my signal was rock solid, but polite repetition worked. I will post again once this issue is finally resolved.
