| reply to xrayman Ran a ton of speedtests with ~1.5 Mbps up and download speeds varying between 6 and 10 Mbps, depending on the minute, trending upwards as it got later, on my new Clear Spot Voyager. latencies was 80-100ms. Speeds were clustered around 7.5 Mbps. CNR was in the high 20s/low 30s. And yes, I was pretty much right next to the tower (1000 feet for some tests, much less for others), in NW Austin.
I'm guessing backhaul is the limiting factor here? or does the Voyager max out at lower speeds than the home modems, even under ideal signal conditions? And by ideal, I mean that transmit power was often less than 1 dBm. |

1000 feet from the tower, connected via Ethernet to a Clear Hub Express. Another tower nearby had me hitting 17.5 Mbps or so, also from ~1000 feet away. RSSI is -50 right now. CNR is 38. If you're looking for ideal conditions, this is it. |

1 edit | reply to xrayman Picked up a Clear Hub tonight due to my new place not being able to get DSL quicker than 1Mbps, and for Time Warner Business class being too expensive.
Clear showed that I had ZERO coverage here, but I knew that I was only 1/2 mile in between TWO Clear towers, and that I was higher (in elevation) than one of the towers.
Here is my speedtest, and I have to say -- I am VERY satisfied for only $50/month.

EDIT, as of posting this, I moved my modem, with the side of it facing towards the tower.
My RSSI went to -60, with a CINR of 32
This is what I tested at -- not bad!:

Never heard of the site scanmyspeed. I tested there and got the following; Down ==> 20.24 Up ====> 2.76 I kinda doubt those numbers, but it would be nice... |
