Re: Post Your 2012 Clear Speed Test Results Vix, Your signal strength is a little low, to see the best speeds you need to have a CINR of 15 or better. Can you position your modem to a better place in the room, by a window? |

ivman join:2010-08-15 Shortsville, NY | reply to xrayman I am a fan of Clearwire. My speeds are normally great, I dont have any reasonably priced alternative, and for the most part, I have been very happy with their service. However, I have been dealing with speeds such as this posting for almost a week now. On the plus side. I have finally talked to a locally based engineer who has been able to let me know what the issue is. We had a major storm roll through last week, (Took down trees on my property and a barn 1/4 mile away). My speed issues started immediately after that and the storm apparently affected the tower used as the base for the collection of the microwave relay signals for towers in my area. The engineer stated the issue should be resolved this weekend or early next week (however, we are expecting 60+ mph winds again this weekend so I expect it will not be untill next week).
My point is, that I took the time to suffer through the trouble shooting scripts the clear tech support use without getting pissed at them, and eventually things were escalated to a local resource. It was painfull, no doubt, but nescessary to proove that this was not an issue with tower loading or distance. It was tough to get them to accept that though I am 4 miles from the tower, my signal was rock solid, but polite repetition worked. I will post again once this issue is finally resolved.

Your CINR is amazing. I'm on the hills so I can see the tower at about 2.5 miles. With a 24dB grid I get -41 dBm but my CNIR is oscillating between 21 & 23. When I get 22 or higher I do have the 5 LED below 22 I get only 4. BW is a costante 12Mb/s although ocasionally I see 13.5 with the speedtest. With real life DL I was able to see 15 a few times. I never get less than 11.5/12 unless someone else in my house is using the net. I'd like to improve my CINR, I even though that my antenna has too much gain and my radio clips the signal. On the other side if I put an antenna with less gain I get more garbage from other towers because these antennas are less directional. Dilemmas, dilemmas, dilemmas... |

One time this winter when the temperature was in single digits and no wind I saw a CINR of 30. A variable inline attenuator, can be used to solve signal overload problems with high gain antennas. |

I thought about that, may be a 10dB attenuator would be perfect although it would decrease my output power as well. Shouldn't be a big deal though because I'm sure my signal is very strong at the tower site.... |

Rssi -66 Cinr 29 5.3 miles from tower THis is fantastic man, particularly at >5 miles. I think that CINR of 29 kicks in 64QAM with the best FEC ratio. CLEAR rocks man, in my opinion they should have installers like Direct TV coming to your home and putting antennas outside. This way more and more people would be happy. Not everybody can do this themselves. What equipment do you have? |

ivman join:2010-08-15 Shortsville, NY | I have a CPEI25725 series M modem and a corner reflector. Nothing else. I have been extremely happy with Clear. They have been very stable for me and Ive only been bit by the speed cap once, when they initially brought the software online. If I had to, I could go to Verizon, they have a tower that is literally next door to me but I would be doubling my cost. The most frustrating thing for me is that the Ontario county fiberoptic loop goes over the driveway to my house, and I cant touch it - only commercial access. |

| reply to xrayman I got clear back in 2009. I live in NW Chicago, by Ohare. My plan says I'm suppose to have 4Mbps download speed, and 0.5Mbps upload speed. But My average speed is always like this.
