 | Latency through the roof all day, sites unreachable I'm on Millenicom's 20 GB plan with Verizon. Speeds have always been poor, particularly in the evening hours. Latency is generally in the 125-250 ms range.
But today... I've been unable to reach any website at all. No improvement in the past 14 hours. When I've tried pinging various sites, they typically time out. When I've managed to run a traceroute to, say, google.com, latency is all over the place but tends to be in the 500 - 3000 ms range (sometimes as high as 15,000 ms). Dropping packets like crazy, of course. As awful as Verizon's network is here, I've never experienced anything nearly this bad until today.
Called support and their suggestion was to "install VZAccess Manager and run whatever updates it says to do." I installed VZAM... no updates... no improvement... I did try updating the PRL just for giggles, no effect.
This is with a -85 dBm signal on EVDO-Rev. A. Good Ec/Io. As always.
Any ideas? |

| Well it could be a tower issue, if you have a phone you could call Verizon directly about it, not sure how that would work if not though. I would probably call MC back and tell them that didn't work and see if they won't contact Verizon about the issue. Verizon is very good about resolving tower issues usually. I called them over signal degradation on my phone and they had the problem fixed the same day on our tower and thanked me for alerting them to the problem. -- HughesNet elite plan/.74 dish w/1watt trans. / 9000 modem / 3 computers on a linksy's wired network |

2 edits | hi i live in Louisa as well.....
do you know what tower you are using?
it's most likely tower related issue....i experience the same problems u described several times in the past....
latency on 3g will always be around the same very low end would be 100ms average is 140-150ms high would be 200ms
what is your average speed?
do you play first person shooters? (latency seems to be your main complaint)
also how long have u had 3g?
if u have not had it long then you will come to realize that not ALOT but every so often it does act up and do stupid stuff...sometimes
re-installing vzw manager and all the drivers fix's the problem but i can tell ya in louisa over the past year all the smart phones and
people realized that 3g is here and dumping dial up....that tower usage is really bad right now...what is your morning speed daytime
and latenight speeds? during the day i can only get 200-300k (sometimes only isdn speeds 64k -128k)broadband connection but late at night it can be 1.5mb connection
to 3mb connection down and 1.5mb up but that's at like 3-4am that's because i have alot of people on my tower...all in all this will happen from time to time with 3g it's not perfect but it sure beats 28k! dial up :P
*note* a antenna helped me out alot if u don't have one u might want to get one....so if one tower is giving u trouble if u have another somewhat close u can just point it to other one (if u get a directional antenna and know where towers are...) also if u want and know what tower ur on i can ride by it with my laptop and test it myself to see if the problem is on there end or yours..
also u may want to try out a router .....u plug ur modem right into the router it connects for u and everything if u get kicked it reconnects has wif-fi etc....i'm pleased with the results when i ditched all the vzw software
i have the craddlepoint MBR95 very good product »www.cradlepoint.com/products/sma···g-router |

If it's still happening : leave the power off to the verizon device for 30 mins (maybe 40 I am not sure of verizons timeout setting) and then reconnect. |
