| Perhaps a suggestion for the mods.... Moderators:
It MAY make sense to create a NEW subcatagory under either Satellite or under WildBlue and call it "Exede" or "WildBlue-Exede" to seperate the posts between standard WB users and the new Exede service. That way, reviews, comments, discussions will be seperate and less confusing to the readers. Eventually, once all WB users are moved over to Exede (whenever that is completed), then the old WB forum could be archived or something.
It would just be a way to be fair to WB (and the users of these formums) so that reviews for either service and rants/praise/complaints are kept separate.
Just a thought for what its worth. Thanks!!

Kept in mind that within several years, many Wildblue users will convert over to Exede's 5 mbps packages or its 12 mbps plans.
Why? Cause when a Tria fails, its a no brainer to get Exede for $150.00 rather than some $275.00 or so for installed price of new Tria. |

 | reply to hdman Excede is no more than a new service package. Just like we have to specify Value, Select or Pro packs now we have to specify Excede with 12 Mb/s or 5 Mb/s download speeds to identify our service package.
A subcategory would increase the work of moderators requiring them to move threads and post to the appropriate location when a user post in the wrong place.
A subcategory for Excede is unnecessary. |
|
 | reply to hdman the hughesnet forum doesn't have subcategories for all their different systems and is working just fine.
they could however have an option to list what service a poster is referring to in the thread title like the hughesnet forum does |

A subcategory for Excede is unnecessary. Not exactly. Its a different bird, and equipment all together. Frankly, its a whole different system. Thats why I was suggesting that we have 2 forums so that its not confusing to readers which service is being discussed.
Either way, it was a suggestion and its certainly up to the mods. I do understand the extra work involved. However, this is a new service and since WB has a pretty bad rap (as do all current sat systems) when you look at the average ratings, it would just make sense not to prejudice the ratings with all the previous ratings just because its the same company. It is truly a different service. IMHO....of course. -- The proper way to break in a Harley: Grab a fist full of throttle, and ride it like you stole it!!! |

| reply to hdman Frankly, I would suggest to keep them seperate. Why? Because as a former WB user, and now an Exede user, my only choice to review the product is to UPDATE my OLD review of WildBlue.
This will skew the numbers for WB, and will not accurately represent the Exede product, which some will argue incorrectly, is a TOTALLY different PRODUCT than WildBlue. If you think they are the same, then you have not had both.

| reply to hdman I sure would like to post a review of my NEW Exede service, but I can't because I have an old review of WildBlue up there. The old review is valid for THAT product, but is not valid for my Exede.
It would be nice if we had a new catagory to post reviews under.....
Just a thought....

grohgregDunno. Ask The Chief join:2001-07-05 Dawson Springs, KY | reply to hdman Agreed. There's still no site mechanism for Exede subscribers to review their recent obligation. This is a "broadband report", and I think - in principle - the new Exede5 and Exede12 service qualifies

- The forum can not be renamed - at least not the URL. - It would be confusing to have two forums when it seems Exede is being sold by Wild Blue so I think the forums will stay "WildBlue" for a while. - I've sent a message up the food chain to get someplace to post Exede reviews. Stay tuned. |

Excede is not being sold by Wildblue. In fact I doubt Wildblue is being sold under that name at all anymore. ViaSat took over, and is replacing the Wildblue name with Exede. So beginning last month, those existing Wildblue customers - who want the speed increases that come with Exede - will have to upgrade to the new SurfBeam2 modem. Even through their old dish still may have Wildblue painted on it, the SB2 upgrade then officially makes them Exede subscribers.
Right now the Satellite category has three tabs; Hughes, Wildblue, Other. Why not just add a fourth and call it Exede. As WB customers migrate to the Exede upgrade, all they'll then have to do is simply jump forums.

| reply to seagreen I agree with Greg. Adding a 4th tab for now, and in about 12 months, the WB forum will die mainly because most users of WB will be converted to Excede by that time. Thanks for looking into this seagreen!

The reported relationship:
ViaSat is using the brand name exede by ViaSat for the high speed Internet offering. It is phasing out its previous brand name WildBlue |

| reply to grohgreg said by grohgreg:Excede is not being sold by Wildblue. = I disagree - When one goes to the Wild Blue website there are plans for both Exede and Wild Blue. With WildBlue being offered @ $49.95 and Exede being offered @ $49.99. I fully understand that WildBlue as a brand name may be going away but for RIGHT NOW it appears that both are available.
Exede reviews may be posted here: »Company entry - exede by ViaSat |

 | reply to hdman I agree with seagreen. For now:
1. Do not create a separate forum for Excede.
2. Do not rename the Wildblue forum to Excede.
3. Create a separate place to post reviews about the Excede service. |

grohgregDunno. Ask The Chief join:2001-07-05 Dawson Springs, KY | reply to seagreen said by seagreen:said by grohgreg:Excede is not being sold by Wildblue. = I disagree - Well, you're the moderator. But there's something braindead about a webpage that advertises 5 and 12 meg service for 4 cents a month more than their 512k service. Besides, selecting the Wildblue service availability hyperlinks result in "Were sorry, our service package lookup function is currently offline". And the Exede hyperlinks jump completely away from the Wildblue site. Sure looks like a website that's being dismantled to me.
I'd think you'd want to get out in front of this, especially given that something similar is comin' down the pike later this year; the new Jupiter/HughesNet Gen4 service. I'm sure there will be interest in separate discussion and review areas for that as well.

When I checked it last, for a new WB install, you got the Pro plan for that price.
Use this site for Exede: »www.viasatresidential.com/exede/home
Just stick your zip code in that box and click on submit. |

grohgregDunno. Ask The Chief join:2001-07-05 Dawson Springs, KY 2 edits | My point exactly. No more Wildblue sales, it's all Exede now. It's understandable that that some form of the Wildblue site must remain open to support legacy subscribers. But it's pretty clear that requests for new service are being funneled to the ViaSat/Exede site.

Always check the 'legalize' first:
The limited warranty for the equipment. This is a combined agreement for both Exede and WildBlue. |
