Revised Do Not Track Plus avail for 4 browsers

In an attempt to make "Do not Track" add-on easier to use and more friendly to non-techies "Do not Track Plus" is now available as an add-on for Firefox, Chrome, Safari, And IE.

»download.cnet.com/8301-2007_4-57···1_3-0-20

Links in above story lead to add-ons for each of the named browsers.

P.S.>> the new updated version is 2.0.4

Firefox does have a limited version of "Do not Track" where the html requests go out with DNT turned on in header. That is a privacy page option. But the DNT add-on mentioned here goes beyond that and also can affect web sites that do not honor the "Do not track" header.

Sample of Do not Track Plus running as add-on in Google Chrome and blocking trackers at foxnews.com.:

P.S.>> I also run adblock plus and the 2 running together appear compatible.

I've been running DNT+ along side with Ghostery in Firefox 10.0. So far, Ghostery has blocked trackers before DNT+. I have yet to see a site that has spillover from Ghostery to DNT+. But maybe my other addons such as NoScript, CookieMonster and ABP, are helping.

Seems to me these two addons are almost identical in function. That begs the question, which one to use?

Just installed this addon. Also using adblock plus and no scripts. Are those okay to all run? I also have firefox checked to not track with in the settings area.

They will all work together. But at some point all the redundancy will slow down your browser's response times.

Hmm. If that is so. Which one should be let go you think?

They should have made it for Opera. I can't get Ghostery to work on Opera. I use Ghostery on Fx and SM. I rarely use Iron so I don't care about what works or doesn't on it. I do care about Opera.

Suggest that to the developer.

Doesn't work on 64bit IE

Click for full size
I see a problem.
After opening and closing IE a few times, over time they all stay running, and sucking up ram.

No good.
I'll have to uninstall it.

I am not really surprised at no 64-bit version as of yet.

it runs on my 64bit box here.

I'm always cautious about free stuff like this - do the folks here think this is a trustworthy app for a work pc? It looks great, but you never know

Thanks for your comments

codydog:

A program such as this one is definitely not an essential "need" to perform employment.

If you have an interest in computers, etc., it may be wise to purchase an old used computer that can be trashed without much of an issue or expense.

I agree with Snowman that this is not something you need at work unless of course you own the company and can do as you please with your computers.

If you have an IT Dept. let one of them know about the addon and if they want to tear it apart and test it who knows they may approve it.

What is the verdict here? I am using no scripts, adblock plus, do not track plus, mvps host file and spywareblaster. I have a feeling this is to much together?

I can't really help here, but other Security gurus in this forum might be able to give you guidance.

I have Adblock Plus & DNT+ and everything is OK.
