You pay for the convenience, it's really expensive, and the selection of K cup coffee is not really there. The are big names (Nabob, Maxwell house etc) but I don't see Jamaican Blue Coffee being in a Kcup for example. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake....... |

LazManPremium join:2003-03-26 canada | reply to hm No argument it's expensive - although, at about 40 cents a cup, way cheaper then Timmies/McCafe/Starbucks...
I drink the Maxwell House and Nabob Columbian mostly; and like I said, it's pretty decent. I work from home, so don't drink a pot fast enough to stay fresh; I find the Tassimo a decent comprimise. |

PaoloMr. Wireless join:2004-05-29 Canada | reply to elwoodblues Hey sir eldwood blues, not everyone wants to brew an entire pot of coffee to drink just one cup. in my house hold we are never at home at the same time, so i make my coffee early in the morning, the wife does her at lunch time, and the youngsters have their treat at dinner time.
it fits our schedule. but yes it does cost a little more, so we actually put 2 per person a week into a jar and save for it, so we can easily afford it.

I couldn't believe the nut I had on the phone.
Was on hold for a good 30-minutes.
American girl answers and... wow man...
She says: What state are you from? me: Quebec her: What state? Me: Quebec her: I see. Can you spell that? Me: Q U E B E C her: did you say Q U E E E C? Me: No. B like bob. Her: I see. ok Qwaybec. That is your providence Me: My providence? yeah, that's it. sigh.
Let's not get started on ZIP code, city name or street name... That totally blew her away.
I expect I will have to recall them in a couple of weeks since I don't expect the part after giving my address to that nutbar. |

What folks are paying for is "DRM" coffee, sure the brewer might be cheap initially, but its not like you can stick any old coffee/tea/whatever in there that you want.
Price of the discs goes up? You eat it. They stop producing the blend(s) you like? Tough cookies.
Product safety is a universal issue across anyt type of brewing device, but the fact that its both the brewer *&* some of the T-discs in this case suggests an engineering screw up (of epic proportions) if you look at the numbers of brewers and discs being recalled.

I think maybe she was confused with the words province and providence... At least I hope so.
Like I said, I don't expect the part. She was too damn dumb to take an address. |

I don't drink a full pot in a day either. But paying 40 - 80 cents a cup for coffee at home is just plain stupid and ridiculous.
If all you're drinking from the Tassimo is Nabob and Maxwell House then you'd be much better off with one of these.
This is what I use at home and it costs me about a nickel a cup. And every cup is a fresh grind. |

LazManPremium join:2003-03-26 canada 1 edit | Meh. Good for you.
Tassimo works fine for me; price is certainly tolerable... It does everything I want and need, and is very convienient; that's worth the extra cost, to me... To each their own, I suppose. |

Different strokes for different folks. Some people will never get this though, they're entirely too judgmental.
I found I was at a middle point. Some days the wife and I are on completely different schedules, and some days we're in sync. So we have both. For days when I just want a quick cup there's the K-cup, for days we're both together we make a whole pot. |

| Not sure about Tassimo .. but Keurig is not instant coffee it is actual grounds (with the exception of the Hot Chocolates and the 3 lattes they carry)
I only drink one cup or two a day so it works perfect for me, and they have about 150 varities of coffee (flavoured and non flavoured)
I can also get an attachment to use my own grounds as well (attachment costs about $20) -- "The hardest thing about any political campaign is how to win without proving that you are unworthy of winning." ~ Adlai E. Stevenson |

They have since replaced it with Van Houtte Coffee. but ya i get the point of the price its cheaper to bre your own but it depends on how many people drink the coffee u brew if u brew a whole pot but only drink one cup out of it, and it goes to waste, then the tassimo and keureig ones are beneficial, because less waste. -- Happiness is like peeing your pants... They still sell Eight O'Clock Coffee at Metro here in Ottawa.
I have a Keurig machine and I wouldn't give it up for anything. 40 cents a cup isn't cheap but it's a hell of alot cheaper than buying a drink every morning. |
|
 | reply to Paolo The Metro chain of supermarkets still carries the 8 O'clock Bokar brand of coffee and every few months they have a 900 gram bag on special for $7.99 which is when I stock up.
Besides my point was that if all you are drinking is Nabob and Maxwell house at 50 cents a cup then you could do it just as easily and for a fraction of the cost using a simple single cup drip brewer like the Toastess without wasting a single gram of coffee.
Like I said, I enjoy 3 or 4 freshly brewed cups all day long for about a nickel a cup.
Let's see. At 40 cents per cup x 4 per day x 365 you're blowing almost $600 a YEAR on COFFEE!!!! The same thrill costs me about $70.
I dunno about you, but I have plenty of better uses for an extra $530 per year, especially around auto insurance renewal time... |
