intermittent connection loss

Running windows xp home
modem is - motorola 2210
have replaced line, nic, jack, and modem.
att dsl/fastaccess

I have had ATT dsl for around 8 months now, on the day they came out, turns out the att box on the side of the house had no connection from the pole, so they scheduled a guy to come out and run a new line to the box on the house, he used a ditch witch, then my landlord saw some of it above ground, so I called att back and they came back out and reburied the line, I wasn't home, so I have no idea how they did it, I got here at the end of the reinstall, I assume they reburied the same line.

Well after that, I noticed when it rained, or seemed to be when it rained, I lost connection, I called them, they sent a tech out, he said everything was fine on their end, but the problem kept happening, every time it rained, I called again, they sent someone out, he couldn't find any problem and said it was fine, but he then wanted to crawl under the house and look at my line from the box to the house. He was under there awhile and said he found a splice in the phone wire and said he thought it was getting wet when it rained, and he thought it was the problem/maybe. Re said he did a temp resplice and recommended I rewire the house with cat5 cable.
Meanwhile I kept losing connection, and was even losing it when it did not rain. then in the last few weeks I have been losing my connction every few mins or so, very intermittent with no rhyme or reason. so I went and rewired the line with new wire, just one wire temp, as to figure it all out, I even got a new phone jack and new N.I.C., and the connection still drops, every few mins. so I called att back last week and told em I was fed up and told em it was on there end, and I had been losing conn. for 8 months and I demanded it be fixed, she ran tests and said it wasn't them. so she put me on hold, I was on the phone with them for over an hour. She talked to a tech. and he told her, since they have came out so many times, he told her to send me a new modem so she did.
the old modem i was using was an att westell, and today I received the new modem and it is a motorola.
While doing the self install wizard of the new modem, I lost conn. like normal a few times, until I got to the part where the wizard and net was configuring my modem, and then it stayed on, then the next step of the wizard, said detecting modem, and it seemed to get stuck in an infinite loop of "detecting modem" for over 45 mins I let it say that, until I went and opened another browser and went to att chat support, I told her how it was stuck, she had me check the modem config, and at that time, the modem had been on over an hour without losing connection.
I wasp pumped as I figured it was all good now, then after being on almost 2 hours it dropped conn.

I called att support back and she had me on the phone for 45 min. she put me on hold as she talked to a tech. and he told her he adjusted some things and opened a port, and to give it 24 hours, and if it went off again after the 24 hr mark, to call em back.
well all during the 24 hrs it did its normal drops of about 8 to 10 dropped connections an hour but at the 24 hr mark, amazingly it stayed on for 4 or 5 solid hours last night, so we thought it was fixed, today we get up turn on pc and its back to dropping connections again, just not as frequent.
I am so fed up with this and am now wandering if a virus or program can be doing this unbeknownst to me?
I am lost and need any help, as att seems to say its me and not them. I guess I will call them back in a lil while.

I am no tech but can build a pc and work on em, to a degree or with the right help and guidance, any help would be so greatly appreciated.

This is a custom built pc, running xp home.

Sincerely,
kdt333

Thanks so much.

ok, will do, but now mine is more frequent, like 8-10 drops n hour, without any rain. tech is coming again tomorrow, if its not fixed, I am done with ATT, I will go back to CC, regretting it, but, I have given ATT 8 months.

Ty so much for sharing. I appreciate it.
Sick of wasting hrs n hrs on tech support, to the Philippine's, and then put on hold while they call a tech back here in Tn.
Just over it all, When att was BS, way back in Ga. had adsl, and, for a few years. never had any issues with this kinda drop frequency.
Now, its beyond paying for. and they blame it on me. Its not on my end. But they seem to argue with u, no matter your tech exp. and knowledge.

Thanks again, at least u read my post.
Take care.
Sincerely,

at&t tech supervisor just left my house, said it was on their side and he showed me on his pc where it had thousands of error's since he got here and synced the line, he said they were increasing and he said some other att people will be out later today.
I told him how I thought it was the line they buried twice as the first guy was very rough with it on the ditch witch when he kept slamming it into tree roots and I feel like the line is the problem, he said it could be or on the drop box on the street.
Hopefully they can get it fixed and figured out, but he did guarantee me, it is not on my side.

Thanks,
Sincerely,

Think you can close this thread now.
